Its a BIG trip in an old car. Best of luck and be safe out there. I'm less than an hour from Sulphur Springs...in fact one of my nephews lives there.
Nice looking car BTW and welcome to the world of classic cars.

Very nice car. I am about 90 miles west of you in Rowlett. If you stop in West Monroe, LA on our way home I can tell you a couple good places to eat. Hope to see you at some time in the future. Congrats on your car. Be sure and check to dates on those tires before you make that trip. I-20 is really hot this time of year.

Welcome, beautiful car. If you get some personal questions like 'what is your carburator id' or 'show me your rear axle,' don't be offended. It is sign of affection and you will learn so much about what you have.

I would think twice about not driving... Road Trip... Just look it over good, a short road test and go..... I dove my 69 442 4 spd towing a 76 Chevette 1, 000 miles to Camp Lejeune , North Carolina back in 1984 with a 455 built to W-30 spec's running 70 mph up the West Virginia hills, no issues what so ever..... Well 10 miles to the gallon... Oh, I had 4 inch cragar rims and tires on the front......

Picking up the 442
Thanks for all of the complements guys! We picked up our car and set out on the 600 mile trip home. After a stop in Biloxi to donate to the casino's light bill and a good nights sleep we let the top down and headed to Texas.
Here are some pics of the car and our journey. The AC was working when we picked it up but within 30 miles the compressor locked up so the rest of the trip was no AC. Which we are thankful that it wasn't that hot out yesterday. I did get a good drivers tan and I think I burned the bald spot on top of my head! I'm very pleased with the car appearance and mechanics. It ran great and best I can tell we were getting 12-14 mpg on the highway running about 70-75 MPH. I did put octane boost and premium gas each fill up as the previous owner suggested.
It did develop a small oil leak and ended up using about 3 quarts of oil. Not too bad for 600 miles. I will get it in the shop and see what is leaking. Hopefully its just a pan or something simple and not a rear main seal or something major.
I do appreciate all the helpful information that you guys have and look forward to chatting with you all.
Just turned 50 so I figured Id better let the wind blow my hair while I still have some!
Notice the AC compressor. Did not have any tools, had to borrow a knife to cut the belt.
Harrah's was the lucky one that night.
Removed one bumper sticker, one to go and some residue to get the goof off on.
Gotta get rig of the Georgia plate.

Not much to be worried about. This car is in excellent condition, runs and drives like a dream.
The original owner had a frame off restoration and put in a new engine in 2009. They said they have only put around 10,000 miles since then. It’s been garaged and covered since.
I know there are things that can go wrong with any car pushing 50 years old but why live scared?

She lost her sense of humor when my Nova's distributor had a catastrophic failure, in Arkansas, returning from the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2013. 4 hours on the side of the road waiting for a local roll back and my daughter. She got there, from Rowlett, just before the roll back did.
Anyway, you guys are going to have a ton of fun with your new treasure. If you run out of car shows in Sulphur Springs, there will be plenty on the east side of Dallas County for you to enjoy...if we ever get them started up again.
