Welcome to the CO. I am new also. I have a 1965 cutlass 330 with 4 speed white buckets and interior. The most amazing thing about my car is the sweet sounding AM radio with a single speaker in the front dash.

Welcome to one of the most helpful sites ever. You're not Jim Stewart from Stewartown years ago, by any chance are you. That would be spooky!

Welcome!

Car looks great, I hope you weren't misinformed when you bought that car but that's a 1972 Cutlass supreme with a w-29 hood and grilles added post factory. In 72 the 442 was only offered in the Cutlass 'S' and convertible models.

Looks like a good project car. Body doesn't look to be to bad. I like the Grand National on the other side as well.

No that is not me. Just a guy from Washington Mo. 50miles west of St. Louis. I just bought a 65 cutlass 330 4speed for a retirement gift to myself. A good driver that needs a little things done here and there.

clone

tony72..., I bought the car knowing it was a clone, should of mentioned that the first post, didnt mean to mislead... I thought 442 was a option package that could be ordered on a cutlass supreme also just in 1972.. I know the car was a weird order, has original 455 and also came with hurst dual gate shifter, but didn't have cutout rear bumper.

Hey thats cool man, it's important that you're happy with the car with whatever way it is.

Just, we want to make sure the guy who sold it didnt convince you it's some kind of voodoo 4-4-2 and pay a heafty pricetag.

I'm badging my car as a 4-4-2 as well, just because i think it looks sharp.

Hey Tony ,I'm doing the 442 badging too ,I removed the Gutlass(lol) emblems and drilled new holes for the 442 emblems ,was a bit tricky but not too hard ,I made clear templates so i'd know that the emblems would cover up the holes. The trunk emblems i used 3m tape.

The S was just the mid-range model in between the F85 (base) and Supreme (the one you have).

It's been implied that S stands for Sport. People also call it "Fastback" and Oldsmobile called it a Holiday Coupe.

Supreme

Cutlass 'S'

Cutlass 'S' Post Coupe (has windows with posts/vent)

Cutlass 'S' 442 Appearance Package

Included (w29 Hood), FE2 Suspension, Emblems, Grilles, It deleted the trunk strip trim (but had reveals) and removed the Rocker panel chrome. Also had thinner stripes than the w-30

A 1972 Cutlass Supreme U code car....way cool my friend!
72 was the year they started putting engine code in the Vin....
Any other upgrades that came with the car that you are aware of?...boxed control arms, sway bar maybe another reared other than the 2.56....
Can you post some pics of the interior?
Not an SX, or a 442...IMO, a true sleeper

rear axle

I forgot, the rear gear is a 3.90.... the engine is a fresh rebuild, mild crane cam, performancemaster rebuilt heads forged trw pistons, 10.5 comp. ratio, shot peened connecting rods, everything balanced, high volume oil pump and extra capacity oil pan, 3000 rpm stall converter, shift kit. Also installed ceramic headers, dual plane intake and pertronics flamethrower electronic distributor. The car moves out surprisingly well!
