new guy in ontario

Hello everybody,

2 weeks ago i bought a 63 ninety eight sedan, i'm not sure what i'm gonna do with it yet since the frame is in really bad shape.
My plan was to get it certified and then drive it in the summer.

in the past there have been some repairs done to the frame, and some of the body part have been fixed up with bondo.
also there are some holes in the floor as well.

the brake booster is broken, i just took it out and attached the master cilinder strait to the pedal, haven't got around to bleed the brake system yet.

every thing else is in good working condition and original!

I' might post some questions in the future, since i'm new to working on cars, altough i do maintenance and repairs on my truck myself.

Have a great day.

Welcome aboard, sounds like you have a major project ahead of you. If the frame is crap, I wouldn't waste time fixing it. Get a new one. The frame doesn't have to be from a 63 Olds, I believe there are interchangeable big car frames from those years.

Bondo to hide problems is common. For now if its not hurting anything and you can live with it - don't worry bout it.

Yeah, brakes are going to be a major part of your safety certification. Don't mess around with short cuts. Do it right. If you need help sourcing out the parts, I'm sure members here with the older cars can point you in the right direction.

Dent beat me to it; post some pics of your ride. I love the big 98's.

Even though a little on the rough side, it's in decent shape for a car that's almost 50 years old!!

I hate it when photos do that. It happens to me, personally, all the time.

It is a nice-looking car. Good for you for saving it.

Keep in touch with Oldskeeper as he's the guy who has all the info and connections you'll need to fix her up. He's also not that for away being in Ontario.

Welcome to CO

Decisions, decisions.

When you say the fame is bad. Do you mean totally rusted out or other types of damage, bent, or cracked?

I mean holes because of rust, and some parts were already repaired before.. for a 49 year old car that has been in ontario the whole time it's a miracle it still exists.

i ve seen brand new vehicles on the dealer lot with rust on the frame!
most people bring there car away every year to get it sprayed with oil.

Other than this rusthell, its a pretty good place to live

have a good one
