Gas pedal removal?

I have a 1964 jetstar88 and am trying to install new carpet. Is there a trick to remove the gas pedal from the floor board? Please help.

You pry it at the bottom. There are 2 ball headed bolts. The gas pedal is pressed onto the *****. Some WD 40 helps.
