Chevelle dash swap
Chevelle dash swap
i am building a sleeper style car (primered, little to no intrerior, spend all my money on drivetrain) and was wondering if anyone has ever swaped a 72 cutlass dash do a chevelle ss type dash of similar year? my stock dash is messed up this is why i want to swap. i wont be running any of the under dash hvac stuff. i have a mojave heater, so no stock type vents, will use covans classic dash instert with autometers, so pretty much the main hull and pad is what i will be using. i was wondering about supports, steering column support. any info would help alot. break down pics if anybody has them
I've never tried it but am skeptical that they would fit. I believe the metal area that the dash bolts to is very different between the different GM lines. I think you'd have to stay with a Cutlass dash and reconstruct the instrument panel to fit the gauges you want. John
hmm i was thinking that may b the problem may just make custom mounts coming off my support bar on my cage behind the dash. my problem with the stock dash is lack of parts(vents, pad, etc...)anyone no where to get these? anyone have pics of a customized stock dash? sheetmetal dash?
The metal cowl stamping on the interior that the dash attaches to is completely different. You would need to cut out the Olds sheet metal and weld in the Chevelle panel to get the dash to fit. Sounds like it's much easier to simply get a good Olds dash, but it's your car. And to be honest, most of the HVAC parts are common between the two.
