AFNG, hopefully with not to many dumb ?’s

New to the forum and Oldsmobile.

picked up a 67 442 (5v is there) for a couple grand. In pieces but 95% rust free. No back seat, just the frames (ugh, these are hard af to find in decent shape)

not original engine, but a 425, with a th400. Originally a 4speed 400.

motor was rebuilt and never fired, but not well taken care of either, making a tear down necessary. All good. I like fiddling with stuff.

and I got to strip all 3 layers of paint and redo.

it’s just a mock up as I’m trying to find lifters for it and waiting for valve covers, oil pan, and a couple other miscellaneous parts, but I think it sure looks cool. 🤷‍♂️

Welcome.

I see you have your work cut out for you. But 5Vs are always worth it. And 425s are the only Olds engine better than an early 400 so you're good on that end as well.

What year 425? It will affect finding lifters.

66 block. Don’t know what it’s out of, except it’s not a tornado and it’s 45° bank

Truck lip on the rear but driver side where the weather strip sits needs redone (tail panel) and the nose of the hood needs new metal so I have some fab work ahead of me. Trying to use a bare minimum of any kind of filler. Hate the stuff.

oh, fenders both have a hole as well, right behind the wheels. Not horrible big though.

bkab is for bare knuckle American bullies. Type of dog I breed. So used to using it for forums that I just used here as well. I’m to old to remember to many user names. 🤷‍♂️😂😂

Welcome aboard! Another post coupe being resurrected; nice. Same lifters as any 455 or 350 so they should not be difficult to obtain. The 45 degree cam can be difficult to find but there are still some blanks out there.

the issue has been I have 9.545 push rods and seemingly 2.05 seat height lifters, but most places/people are telling me I need 9.595 and either 2” or 2.050 seat height lifters 🤷‍♂️

I saw a picture on another of your threads that showed a mostly assembled big block with pushrods and rocker arm assemblies in place? Is there an issue with the lifters and/or pushrods in that picture that leads you to want to replace them?

You really wont know what length pushrods you need till all the valvetrain and heads are on. Then you can see/measure travel of lifter plunger when rockers are bolted down when intake manifold is still off. . Hydraulic lifters need preload to keep them quiet and Olds doesnt use adjustable rockers.

Yes. Lifters were cleaned up to some surface rust that was on them to not being taken care of. Push rods were pitted after cleaning, so I don’t really trust them.
