75 Delta 88 convertible Newbie

Good evening to all. This is the first time I've ever been on a forum so excuse me if I don't do something correctly. I sold a 66 coupe deville a year ago because I wanted a convertible of some kind. After deciding I didn't want to spend $30k or more on a car that I would hate to drive in fear of getting a scratch I decided to buy my late Uncles 1975 Delta 88 convertible from my Aunt. She was going to sell it to a friend of my cousins but when she found out I was interested she told him "family first". He wasn't to heartbroken. It had its usual issues from.sitting for three years but I go it running good. It has 83000 miles on its original 350. The problem was it leaked oil enough where it was blowing on the front driverside tire and throwing it off balance. So about three months ago I bought some #6 heads and pulled the engine. I dropped it off at a shop to have new bearings, mild cam and flat top pistons put in. Hopefully by next winter it will be ready for the paint shop. Sorry of this post is to long but I'm excited about my new ride.

Horn, Parking Brake and Seat Belt lights on

Olds folks, I have 75 D88 Royals Convertible. Got it in September and am loving it. Trying to tick off some to do items on it, thankfully she runs great and top is working well so am able to enjoy on nice spring days.

one issue I’d like to take care of is the parking brake and seat belt lights are always on, so I assume is switch needs to be replaced. Also the horn has stopped working (can hear a click when pressing, so might be loose connection to the blower).

it would be great if someone could point me to an electrical manual or something of the sort?? I’m open to any and all advice and very appreciative of all that have been there/done that on these beauties.

You're most likely unfamiliar w/ forums. This thread belongs to the Original Poster (OP) - arcflashfisher. As such, comments/posts to this thread pertain to this thread. What you've done is referred to as hijacking - not to worry, simply making you aware.

What you need to do is read the Newbie section on creating a thread and post your own Thread with your own questions. In this manner the forum maintains some semblance of sanity and organization based upon user's and their questions. Your questions to this thread will become confusing and unrelated to this person's (the OP).

Therefore, create another separate thread of your own with it's own title and everyone can then see your new thread and begin to assist you on your thread.

Welcome to the site!

You need the 1975 Oldsmobile factory Chassis Service Manual and the 1975 Fisher Body Manual. Together these will cover about any service issue and procedure you might encounter on your big scissortop. Yes, they include wiring diagrams.

Brake warning- try pulling the parking brake pedal UP and see if light goes out. Those years sometimes have wonky pedals that don't come all the way up when brake is released. Past that, the pedal switch may be misaligned or possibly the pressure switch underhood is not centered.

Seat belt- you need the FBM for that.

Nice car. Read Post #12. Start your own thread you'll get more mileage than piggybacking on this thread.

Had a 73 455 car in identical color scheme from 1985-1997. What color is the top?

Running g again

I sent my 350 in back In March to be rebuilt. Bored .30 over, #6 heads redone, a little above stock cam, and shorty headers with duals. Just broke it in today. Sounds good.

Hi all, also new to the site and have been snooping around trying to find what headers you guys are using for the 350. The search function just overloads with so much info, kinda overwhelming.

I agree with the others, if you're gonna own this big boat, the service manual and fisher manual are a must. Parts are hard to come by, so be gentle on disassembly.

The Thornton shorty headers seem to work well in the 70s big cars.

Red 75. Check the build date on the data plate underhood. The last Olds convertible was a red/white 75 with 7C build date.

Or was until the W-body Cutlass Supreme converts appeared in 90s.

Good deal!! I'll look into them. That's an interesting tidbit on final production, will have to look into that when I get home.

I used the Thontons on mine and they fitt perfectly. They ceramic coated them for $150. I had no clearance issues. The dipstick slid between the head and headers with no problem and the header cleared the starter. Total cost with ceramic coat was $650. I think they have gone up a little in price in the last two months.

yea, thats exactly what I'm looking for. Not really looking for an increase in power, just a complete system from block to exhaust and I think these will do nicely. Being made especially for these engines and clearance is def a plus.

Thanks for the input

Long road

It runs but I need to replace the intake gasket. I have antifreeze seeping between the head and intake on the passenger side. I also have oil puddling up on top of a couple pistons. Also she bucks and hiccups when I punch the accelerator.
As far as the paint I just need to buff it a little. Not bad for a first time painting a car.

Lookin' good!

When you built the engine initially did you use the turkey tray intake manifold gasket? If so, I've never been able to get them to seal properly. I always cut the sides off of the turkey tray and use Right Stuff gasket maker instead of the end rails. Good luck! 👍

I'm not sure what gasket was put on. I had a shop rebuild the block and they put the intake on. I know I did have to torque the intake bolts because they only had them at 20lbs and they needed to be 40.
