Saving a Delta 88 Convertible from the crusher
Hey guys don't scare motor away yet. It's his first post for Gawd's sake.
Motor, welcome to the Classic Oldsmobile Forum. There's a lot of great people and good information here for you, just ask!
I do know what those other guys are saying... I purchased my '67 for $2,500.00 and thought I might spend another $5,000.00 to make it nice. I ended up spending a total of $15,500.00 on the car. I will never get my money out of it, but at least it looks good and runs great.
BTW parts for Delta 88's are hard to find. Be prepared to search auto wreckers, etc.

Thanks for commenting guys.
I've already got her running! My costs so far:
new Costco battery $90, carb cleaner (free), air filter element $6, new battery terminals $5, fresh gas $40, Heet additive $5, tires $240
Just now putting new rubber on. Used tire stores are awesome. $60 per tire mounted and balanced. Retail tire store was quoting $600.
Gonna really clean that carb and auto choke and take her around the block a few times before driving her across town to my place.
More to come - thanks.

Boy, that was a beautiful car in its day. It's always amazing to me how a car like that, which was probably a significant investment for whoever originally bought it and which was probably driven home from the showroom as someone's pride and joy, ends up like this.
I'm glad you're saving it. No early '70s full-size convertible should ever be crushed. There just weren't very many made to begin with, and there aren't very many left now.

Words of advice. Make a list of TTD and start chipping away at it starting with safety items first. Clean all the electrical grounds you can find, especially the neg wire to the block and the starter & ignition leads, all of them pos & neg. Find the grounds to the soft top controls and clean them as well. Also like lshlsh2 said do the brakes...flush the fluid twice (get a power bleeder $70 in Jegs/Summit) and replace all 3 soft brake hoses. If your "going for it" do the calipers & rear cylinders too. Grease the hell out of the suspension to include the front wheel bearings etc.... Time to service the whole car ALL fluids including power steering, differential, coolant etc... any soft parts etc...Convert reservoir fluid, drop the gas tank and drain, replace the sock....You get the deal...to quote MDchanic are you sorry yet? Not discouraging you but an old car that has been sitting requires all this and more to be safe fun and reliable. Try to save the rotors too because they are probably USA. Thats another note buy the best quality parts you can find stay clear of china junk or like MDchanic said you will be sorry.
Thanks guys -
Cut my restoration teeth on that Mustang and I learned a lot. Both body and mechanical need love, but, like the Mustang, its not my daily driver so I can take my time and do it right. Gonna change the exterior color to either black or white and keep the red interior.

Posted rest of my cars in my album
Added the Jeep, the Corolla and the Mercedes to my album.
Owned the Jeep for 10 years (great summer cruizer & winter snow/off road rig)
Owned the Corolla for 2 months (great gas milage and surprisingly fast)
Owned the Mercedes for a month (gonna fix and sell that thing ASAP!)
The only car in my album I don't own anymore is the A/C Cobra replica.
Owned it for 7 years and decided to sell it last year. 400 hp 351W, toploader 4sp, 8 3/4 rear, no roll bar, no stripes. Very fun vehicle and it almost killed me.
