72 Cutts in Baltimore
Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and I would like to say I love my 72 cutlass. It has a 350 in it and it needs some work. I got it running now and I would like to make it a daily driver. Browsing through the forum I found a couple things I would like some help with. Parts are hard as hell to find! Can someone tell me what type of air filter Boldsmobile has? I also have a exhaust leak in the down pipe where the two sides join and I cant find the part. If I got headers would I have to convert to duals and if so is it an easy conversion meaning is there a bracket/flange on the other side already? Sorry So Long but I'm just getting my feet wet.

I would think it would be easy to convert to dual exhaust since many came that way and parts are available. Summit has a complete header back system 2 1/4 pipes for $169.95 mine cost a bit over 200 bucks with shipping. So they are out there.

Welcome.
You can get just about anything for a '72 Cutlass if you know where to find it. Parts stores still carry a lot of the mechanical parts, they repo a lot of the body and interior parts and there a zillion parts cars around, asking here is the best way to get pointed in the right direction to find stuff.
The air filter is the round paper element type.
It should be the same as '71 I think, my '71 owner's manual says AC Type A 331C for a two barrel, AC type A 212CW for the 4 barrel.
Any parts store should have one, may be another brand than AC (which may be a good thing anymore), I think mine is a Fram. If you go to a Wal-Mart type place or to a big chain parts store to get one the application and cross reference guides are usualy hanging by the oil and air filters, seen computerized ones too.
With headers you automatically have two flanges.
You can get any exhaust pipe or have one made for the cars.
Is the pipe bad or is it leaking at a flange?
You can convert to dual exhaust using the stock manifolds by removing the crossover and blocking off the then unused crossover flange on the right manifold, very common conversion.
You can get the complete exhausts systems or header back systems online or any good local exhaust shop should be able to bend one up for you.

Thanks for the replies. My exhaust has a rust hole in the downpipe. I would like to stay single exhaust but they only have listings for the duals @ the part stores. Are duals a better way 2 go? As for the air filter I have no problem listing stock part but im interested in the filter that doesnt need the top part of the snorkel. Filter material on top as well. Pete or Boldsmobile set up is sexy!! Larry thanks for the invite nice vert.. U near sandy point or eastern shore? Cutlass455 thanks for the quote.. I like those #s

Oh yeah also no one lists the spring that holds the fuel filter in place. I am currently driving with no fuel filter and no air cleaner/snorkel. Just moving it back and fourth to the shop until its ready. Or can I start cruising without these things. I also miss my passenger side mirror. Helps me park closer to the curb!

Welcome to CO! Good luck with your ride! We love pics.
You can find just about any parts you need for your Q-jet here: http://www.carburetion.com/quadrajet.asp I am sure there are other places, but this is what a quick search produced. Your spring is listed there about mid-page for $6.50
Best thing to do to find out what boldsmobile has for an air cleaner setup is to Private Message him, click on user cp, then look at the list on the left. click on private messages and send one.
Fusick may have your downtube. Is it part of the exh manifold? Fusick is here: http://www.fusick.com/catfile/Catalo...yout%20100.pdf
67cutlassfreak has put together a great list of parts suppliers for Oldsmobile. I can't look it up while sending a message, so if you just want to go to his profile and look at threads started you will find it fairly easily.

Here is to the link to the thread about Olds parts suppliers:

Posting in the parts wanted section is often fruitful as well. There are many members here who are great resources, not only for info, but often for the parts you need.
