Mondello

I've been reading the different opinions on Modellos and wanted to get a current gut check. I'm going to be ordering a new cam for my 69 toro 455 and I've been calling around to check prices and offerings. I checked Jegs and Modellos who both claimed that they had a cam that would give me a bit more HP without impacting drivability with power brakes. Thoughts? Mondellos also seemed to have a lot of other parts that I need like heating and cooling stuff.

Pretty much anything Mondellos sells you can get somewhere else cheaper. For example, back in the late 90's my Uncle bought some "BBO Trans am headers" for $399, they were just regular BBO Abody headers that sell for $200 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-58150/
I got the headers when I bought the engine and everything from him, they still had the Hedman sticker in the package. They are now on my 64 BBO Cutlass

The cams Mondello sells are made by Engle Cams, call them direct. As far as other parts, like others have said there are probably better Olds vendors.

Back in the eighties, when I started my build, I spent a lot of money with Mondello's. I really didn't have too many other options. Nobody had a computer, and Al Gore hadn't invented the interweb yet. When I called them, Joe Mondello himself would answer the phone most of the time. He gave me a lot of helpful advice and was very patient with me. Even their catalog had a lot of helpful information. I especially liked the cam selection guide. I thought it was very informative. Now I wouldn't call Mondello's for anything unless I couldn't find it somewhere else. Mondello's has really hurt their business with how they handle their customers. I miss Joe on the other end of the phone but now I've found many others that can help me and in my opinion THE BEST is BILL TRAVATO @ BTR Racing.

I don't think the Mondellos own the place anymore. That might explain alot.

According to the MPP web site, Joe Mondello is still the owner. IIRC the Better Business Bureau also lists Joe as owning MPP.

Except that it's not true. At last summer's OCA Nationals, Joe introduced Lynn as his business partner.

Mondello is a joke! Great if you want to spend twice to four times what a part is worth but realistically a joke. I looked into his cryogenical parts way back and laughed then as I'm laughing now. Mondello means nothing to me. He's an a$$hole.

Thats right --- Joe told us at Nationals that Lynn Wellflinger was now the owner/operator of the California Mondello's. Joe is in his Tenn. facility full-time.
Trust the advise of your "friends and advisers" on here!!!!

That must be where I got confused. I had no idea he had a shop outside of Cali.
