71 Cutlass Solenoid wire routing

Hi, I have a 71 Old Cutlass 350 with TH350 Trans I am restoring. I am installing a new wiring harness. Can anyone tell me how the starter solenoid wires are routed, (where)? Pictures helpful !, Thanks !

Welcome aboard.

Best thing to have is a 71 Cutlass Assembly Manual, and an Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual (CSM). Both are available relatively inexpensive on the web. They have good pics of what you're looking for.

examples:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1971-Oldsm...-/390085813433

You can also ask for them to be shipped at 'book rate' which will save a bit of $$$.

I don't know if this is stock or not but this is what I did with mine.

1. Wires come off the starter (heat shield sleeves) and split; battery wire through the tube, the others run behind the tube.

2. Then it runs up, behind the brake booster.

3.Then it meets up with the rest of the harness.

Hope this helps. Like I said, I don't know if this is stock but mine was a mess when I bought the car.

Thanks for the help !Looks like a good idea to use heat shield wire jackets on the cabling near the manifold & starter

If you haven't already, you can download the assembly manual from wildaboutcars.com. It's a little hard to read but works okay.

No kidding? When did that happen? I guess I'm lucky I saved them to my hard drive.

Months ago! Here's a link to the thread that explains it from the head honcho himself.

Ahh, okay. That's quite a read. Can't say I blame them though.
