68 Olds Vert Owner

Hello...Newbie to the site and to the Oldsmobile Cutlass. Well my mom did have a 78 Cutlass years ago when I was a teen. I have been primarily a Chevy guy and within the brand a Camaro owner. Have built a 72 split bumper car that won a few class awards at Super Chevy Sunday and was featured in Car Craft years ago, so not a newbie to working on and restoring cars. Had several other Chevy's at various times. I have been old carless for about 5 years and just recently purchased a pretty solid 2 owner 68 Cutlass S convertible that is all original. It is a numbers matching car with AC, power windows, power drivers seat, power top, 350 4 barrel rocket engine, 12 bolt rear and the 2 speed auto. Car is unmolested and pretty much everything still works...all interior lights, door buzzer, glove box light, AM radio, top, all windows and the drivers seat. Right over 100K original miles. Will be asking questions in the coming days.

Sounds like a neat car! Post some pics when you can. Lots of people here with '68 A bodies (including me). Have fun and enjoy!

68 Vert Pictures

Here are a few pictures. Car is pretty solid with only a few small holes in trunk pan. Could use patches on lower fenders behind tires. Actually drove the car 45 miles from where I purchased it running 65 mph down the interstate. Ran hot when I got close to home. Blew passenger side head gasket so I'll repair that and enjoy driving it while I work on it.

Nice wire wheel covers! That's the way mine originally came as well.

Man I'm slow... Been awhile since I've posted anything

Been a long time since I have posted anything on the 68 Cutlass Vert. Car is nearing completion. Have a build thread on protouring.com. Here are some pictures. Car is basically a pro-touring kind of resto-mod. Leaving the patina and just did matte clear (not done in this picture)with the POR 15 matte. Has a little sheen to it and turned out pretty nice. Been driving it around some and it runs very well even though it is a stock 5.3. Dropped a few thousand pounds over the Avalanche I pulled it from. Vintage air system, Speed hut gauges.

Almost there. Has SS exhaust tips now but not in this picture. Will get good finished pictures in a few weeks or so. About to send out for new black top.

5.3 LS with Fitech Ultimate EFI Stock otherwise.

Working on getting these 51 valve covers to work as coil covers.

Had a spare Chevelle chassis so installed Hellwig Frame FX on it to speed swap over. Basically looks like they copied GM vert frames. QA1 suspension.

Quick Performance 9", 3:55 Eaton tru trac posi

In the works interior will be all black except carpet. I like the contrast.

Bolt in roll bar setup to mount 3 point seat belts and give some safety.
