Thanks Joe, I'll try some cutting oil and dialing down the speed. I noticed it was working best if I did about 20 seconds on then 20 off so I'm guessing you're right that it's the heat it's generating causing the problem. Hopefully that gets it sending out some spiral chips, so far it's just been dust and granular bits.

When connecting the throttle don't forget to set up the stator and kick down switch.

I was able to get the throttle linkage connected.

I have the ST300 transmission. It has a vacuum line that runs to the intake manifold but I can't see anything else I'd need to hook up?

I moved the car to the driveway and tried to start it today. It's turning over but I'm not getting any spark, couldn't get a reading at the coil so I'll be checking wiring from the ignition switch to the coil tomorrow...

As far as I can see everything looks OK...

Green/white from negative terminal runs to the distributor. I have the resistor attached to the positive post now instead of negative as shown here.

This looks OK to me & other electronics are all working.

Years later -- I got it started for the first time yesterday:

I never could get a reading at the plugs, so I went ahead and replaced the distributor. Took me quite a bit of effort to get the old one out without removing the motor. Finally found a good angle with a pry bar.

The motor is definitely idling high, although I don't have a tach so I can't say exactly how high. It sounds like about 2500 RPM? The quadrajet is basically being used for the first time since I rebuilt it.

I know there's a screw on the driver side for idle speed adjustment, and another for idle mixture adjustment. It seems like it's idling awfully high, so I'm a bit concerned I may have the distributor in there off by a tooth. I guess I should probably set the engine to the TDC mark on the crank and pull the distributor topoff to see if it's aligned correctly.

Smoking a lot, but I've been told that's totally normal for a first real start after this long. The Power Steering pulley is definitely a bit loose right now so I need to tighten that up a bit.
