Newbie in Vegas

Hi guys,
Just wanted to introduce myself to the site. I'm currently in the process of buying my first Olds: a 1972 442. Its a low miles rust free original California car, from the second owner. I can't wait to buy it! Always wanted a 442.

So can someone clue me in. Are 72's supposed to have blacked out rings around the headlights?

Its Burgundy Mist....a bit faded and aged! The color reminds me of a cranberry red. Car is all original.

Guys,
A bit of unfortunate news, the deal fell through. The owner said he just could not part with it. He had the car since high school. I totally get it...
I will just move on, and try to find another! Thanks to everyone on here for the kind words.

Yes.

And the rear view mirror back (front?) is black.

Guys,
Have a lead on two 442's. First is a '71, second is a '68 W30. Keep ya posted!

A teaser pic of the 1968...
It will be home next week. Its missing the original OAI, and some other pieces. It is what you would consider a 'day 2 car'. It was drag raced at one point in its life. Needs work. That said, it is a solid rust free California car. My goal is to get it running/drivable then start the search for the hard to find goodies.

Its original color is Sapphire Blue, with black vinyl top.

Sorry the originally posted car fell through, but looks like you stumbled on a real diamond in the rough with the W30 car. Post some more pics when you get it home.

What I really like about this car, the doors, hood and trunk close as if it was new. GM quality!

Post a picture of the cowl tag when you get a chance and someone on here will decode it.

This is the cowl tag. Ok, experts, let me know what I have: W-30 or not. Thanks!

11B = built the second week (B) of Nov (11), 1967
005219 & 600291 are assembly plant codes
ST 68 = Style 1968 model year
3 = Oldsmobile Division
44 = 442
87 = Holiday Coupe (2dr HT)
BF = Fremont Assembly Plant
00530 BODY = Fisher Body sequential number
TR940 = Black interior with strato bucket seats
B80 = Chrome roof drip moldings
D2 PAINT = Sapphire Blue (D) with Black Vinyl Top (2)

Given that the car was built in Fremont, CA it can't be a W-30 as all W cars were built in Lansing, MI.

Thanks! Kinda had a clue it was not a W30. Even though I wish it had been. None the less, its a genuine 442, and that's what matters most. It will still get all the love it deserves!
