Guys,
Some wiring and dash updates. First pic is showing the alignment tape markings for the harness attachment behind the dash. Second, is where the fuse box will live in the glove box for easy access. Last, is the lower dash with the bright 'Chrome' for the key, headlight, wiper switches, etc.
Dash pad fix. I ground off the cracked, and broken areas of the molded top portion. Epoxied the inner glass injected 'frame' on the broken/cracked portions.
Guys,
I used windshield bond agent to set the re-po dash cover onto the original old pad. This type of glue stays semi flexible so that from the heat and cold it won't crack.

Guys,
Wiring the gauges for the LED lights. First pic, on the left is the original old lights and newly installed LED on the right. Tach on the far right.
Getting the dash wiring finished. Installing the oil pressure, water temp, and volt gauges where the radio once lived. My goal is to make it look OEM as possible. Pictures soon of the completed work.
Sorry guys, I know its been a while since I posted. A new 'toy' has arrived, a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix with the LQ1 engine aka 3.4L DOHC. New 442 pics coming soon...
Guys,
Its been a while since I posted, and giving an update. I have a front timing cover/water pump leak and will tear down the front of the engine to fix this issue. Don't want water in the oil before I start it. Also, some other small details before it runs...will keep everyone up to date.
Guys,
Need a bit of advice/opinions...Im thinking of selling the '68, and possibly moving on to a '70-'72 body style. Reason: this project is taking way too long, its not running and I really lost interest. You guys think its better to move along (to a running, driver 1970-'72 that I really prefer anyways) OR stick it out and finish this one?
Scott, I’m no expert on value as is vs when/if it’s completed but my guess would be the more you invest, the bigger the gap becomes between what you can get for it vs the investment. That’s probably not as true when you are doing the work but I don’t think I would personally want to spend the time and money building it if it wasn’t what I really want to wind up with. If you can get an as-is price you’re happy with, you’d probably enjoy moving on to another car.
Thanks for the advice. A running, driving car is more important at the moment. I have too many projects. I really don't care if its a Cutlass or a 442 at his point. IF I find a nice Cutlass, I can add the 442 stuff and just enjoy it. This is where I am at this point. OR, just take the cash and finish the '69 Mustang Fastback with the Boss 429.
Guys,
An update: regrettably I have decided to sell the '68 442. At this time, I have too many projects, and it has to go. I do want to thank everyone who supported me on the build with kinds words and inspiration!
Guys,
This will be my last entry for the '68 442.
I sold the car this past Sunday 8/10/25. It went to a good guy.
Bye, bye 442!
My new adventure: 1970 AMX Big Bad Blue 390 4 speed shadow mask car.
Thanks to everyone who supported me and my car on this website. You guys are the best!
