Gotta agree that red stripe is killer! The blue is a bit blah...
How close is that to the original color on yours? I forget and don’t know what color that W-30 is.
I think they mentions that fella’s name in the article. There are other articles about other cars he has. A nice collection.
Guys,
A bit of interesting news: Lately, lots of people have driven by my house, and have asked IF the 442 is for sale. People KNOW what these cars are! As a result, I de-badged the car of the '442' emblems...to make it less appealing. Never, have I had to do that!

That’s got to make you feel good. Wait til you get it running and the restoration done. You probably won’t be able to get out of the driveway!
Guys,
Another good laugh...
This morning my neighbors new boyfriend comes over and says "Nice GTO!". Really. Of course I had to correct him on "It's a 442". This car gets so much attention in it's unrestored condition with dull faded paint. Like I mentioned, never had I owned a car that creates such attention...and its in my driveway! Can't wait when its painted and running!
Guys,
A bit of an update: ordered some parts, and have been busy playing around swapping/getting the pulley issues sorted out. I will post some new pics later this week. Thanks to everyone for all the support!
Guys,
The bad: After reflection, and seeing the butchered, patched, and terrible hack job someone did with the dash, and engine wiring mess it's time to do a re-wire.
The good: Ordered up a complete new wiring set up (GM specific ) for the 442 from Speedway for under 200 bucks! Nice stuff!
Looks nice, did it include a fuse block? Good value too!
Steve
Yes! Only thing I need to buy a is a new ign switch. It has easy, complete instructions for a 'painless' install. If this set up works as intended, I will buy one for my Mustang project as well.
Started disassembly of the dash, gauges, etc for the new wiring. Man, I gotta bag on GM: who the f designed this mess? According to the shop manual, and by actually doing the work, you have to remove the steering column, all the vents, emergency brake pedal JUST to get to access to remove it! What a PIA. Please tell me I am doing it wrong lol.

Scott, the 7042251 carb is actually the carb for the 72 455 cutlass. I only know because I’ve been researching what the correct carb is for my car. Mine does not have the correct one.
I don’t know what your plans are for that carb or whether it’s a good fit for yours (performance-wise) but if you have any thoughts of not using or unloading it, would you let me know? I may be interested if it’s in any condition to be rebuilt. Thanks.

John,
Thanks for the info. At this time, I will hold on to it...just in case. IF I decide to sell it, you will be first on the list. Btw, how is your 442 coming along?

Thanks, Scott. Sounds good. At this point I haven’t decided for sure to change the carb but I’m still wrestling with fuel/ignition stuff a little. I did get my exhaust on and it sounds good. I bumped into a guy at the parts store who had a 69 Camaro he built himself. I’m talking I mentioned I had exhaust to put on but wasn’t happy with the shop I had been using for other work. He said “I’ll be happy to help you with that.” He’s voluntarily helping me work on other things too. Very knowledgeable and he isn’t charging me - he lives the work. I feel very lucky and will make it up to him somehow.
Your car is coming along well! A lot of nice progress!

Guys,
New pictures coming soon. Restoring the dash, gauges, etc. Installing the new wiring also. Also, the back ordered parts are expected to arrive shortly.
Guys,
Slightly out of sequence, is this 12 bolt a Chevy or the Olds version.
Hey, Scott. Things are looking good! I posted the rear end in mine a while back and was told it was the olds type. Googling images of a Chevy 12 bolt it looks like yours to me but I’m certainly no expert. You might actually like that better in terms of strength because I also learned from my post the the olds “12 bolt” only applies to the cover. It’s only 10 bolts internally.
John,
Yes, thanks for your picture. I was also told that the Olds version is more of an 'O', rather than the Chevy version what appears to be what mine is.
