67 Vistas seem to be the only user of black plastic fender well. Not all Vista had them. I've looked at a dozen plus 67 Vistas and 4 had them. Don't know why, maybe production time built?

By the way the standard steering well only came on the base 67 F85 series, never on a 67 442.

Henry, that mirrors anything I've observed or heard of. Until recently, it never occurred to me to check build dates.
I've not seen any reference to them in Oldsmobile records.

A little more progress, front suspension rebuild, most everything needs new here, bushings, ball joints, springs and shocks. Now if only the grass didnt need cutting so quick..... I would be getting more done!

Will post some pictures soon. Found a E block and it is in the machine shop for a sleeve in #7 due to rust/pitting and .030 overbore. Front suspension is done. Rear glass channel has been repaired and as soon as I paint this area the glass can go in. Soon I will need to pick a cam. It would be nice to use a factory W-30 cam but everyone says the modern cams have it all over the factory grinds.....

cyloinder walls are thick on the E block. Why not bore it more instead of sleeving it? The W30/W31 cams weren't bad at all, but the Comp XE and magnum series are a little better.

I am leaning toward the W-31 cam which has spec's the same as the 67 W-30 cam. The machine shop made the decision to sleeve and I agreed rather than boring all the cylinders excessively right now. I know, or at least read that the E blocks can be bored out to 425 ci and a little beyond so this one will have a few more rebuilds yet I would think. I am also aware of using the 350 pistons. A few pictures of the E block as I got it for 300 bucks.

The black plastic fender wells were installed on some body styles other than Vistas. About two months ago a 67 Cutlass Supreme 4 door hardtop sold and went to Houston that had the black plastic wells. Tho only one I have seen other than vistas that had them. Also the trac pak cars could be had with the red wells. It depended if the customer wanted to buy them. They had a seperate part number (no I don't know it). There is a 67 Trac Pak car in Greenville, TX that I tried to buy years ago. It has Red Wells. Also has factory air and power steering. It has been hit hard in the right front, but not bad enough it couldn't be brought back. The guy still has it and it is now in his barn. He has owned it for over thirty years in this same condition. I keep checking back every now and then to see if it is for sale yet.

not sure if it applies to this conversation, but my 66 cutlass has black plastic inner fenders.... 99% sure they are original to the car.

Right, some 4-doors ended up with them too.
Yes, there were 4-doors that ended up with the black wells in addition to the wagons.
There are rumors that they red wells could be bought separately. Though the red wells did have a *known* part number, all parts have a part number so that by itself means nothing. I know of no evidence or documentation that they were ever able to be purchased. Unless the car you refer to has something to back up the claim, I still consider the purchase of '67 red wells to be only a rumor.

What is the build date of your car? I have to say it is almost impossible for me to believe that they came on any '66 cars. Primarily because I don't think they tooled for it until well into the '67 model year.
3rd week Feb '66

Its possible they are not original, but you'd have a hard time getting me to believe it based on the history i've got on the car from the original & 2nd owner.

rear glass uses 3M 051135 08610 Windo-Weld kit, .25" x 15' and clips #386.

Thanks R-R, I have a 1/4 kit that I bought for the front glass but used the 5/16 kit there instead. The clips I have too, matched em up with originals at the last swap.

Got the engine, E block back from the machine shop. It was bored .o30 and a sleeve in #7. Along with hot tank, magnaflux, core plugs, crank bore alignment check, finsh fit pistons to bores, supplied new pistons press and rod big end resize it cost me just over 1G. I put the cam bearings in and as soon as I wash the reground stick crank it will be ready to go in the block!

So with a grand in the block plus the 300 dollar purchase price, add the crank machining, piston purchase, cam bearing purchase, rod and main bearing purchase, cam and lifter and spring purchase, timing set, etc I will have about 2500 out of pocket. I could have bought a chevy crate engine cheaper than that! he he

Not great progress but crank bolted in nicely. Plastigage said .0018 on mains 1-4 and # 5 in the beginning of range. Am anxious to bolt up the rods! It will be a stock rebuild with EGGE original style flat top pistons.

Got the rods bolted up today, plastigage said all is well. Side clearnaces ok too. Need to buy some more parts now and get the heads done....anyone got any extra cash they dont need?!

It has been a few weeks without an update. The heads are still sitting in my basement waiting for my wallet to catch up some!! Oil pan is on as well as timing cover and balancer. With the swaps coming up I am hoping to score a pressure plate and disc at a good price. I have been cleaning the stock intake for installation and need to rebuild the quadrajet but I may just start out with the quad from a 67 Toro that has already been rebuilt and run tested... I have also been cleaning and painting the front wheel wells. I hope to get a few pictures soon.

Funny, a picture of how NOT to change a heater fan motor. Found this when I got the car home. Got some work to do on the passenger fender. Scored a new pressure plate (11 inch diaphram) and disc and bearing at Etown swap for 50 bucks. Its a Power Brute by Hays I think.

Wes, it looks like something heavy fell on the top of the fender. I ground major bondo out of this area. Will bang the dent out and weld up the slide hammer holes. Then the bottom needs a patch. There was a surface patch here and lots of bondo. I can do better than that. Another disappointment was that the 442 hood is shot. Bracing has come loose from top and the whole hood is like an oilcan and its pretty wavy. A few years ago I got a nice hood for 75 bucks at a swap so I am good to go for a hood.
