Am quite excited to find that a 67 442 I purchased sight unseen from a non Olds guy is a Trac Pac. No mention of this was given and the car needs quite a bit but is solid. It's a post car, plain jane, 4spd, bench seat, manual steering and brakes.

Taillights have nothing to do with the transmissions, it has to do with what model it is. All Cutlass Supremes have all 4 red tail lights and separate backup lights in the bumpers. The Cutlass and F85 models have the backup lights in the lower 2 taillights.

 

A Trac Pac 442 would be either a dealer or customer installed performance package available thru Olds dealers that contains nearly all of the W30 package items. The cam, valve springs, components for battery relocation, OAI components, clamps, grommets, etc were in this package. The pictures posted show evidence of this car having the Trac Pac package installed on it along with a few other items that came with the car and tell-tale signs. While hard to document the tell-tale signs are pretty convincing. Very few Trac pac cars remain. Trac Pac cars would not get chrome valve covers, red inner plastic wells or a chrome oil fill cap.

One of the easy ways of checking if it was a trac pack or W-30 is to look at the drivers side core support and see if the area is rotted. The core support should be in good shape because the battery was in the trunk.
The shroud is going to look great on the car.

 

Picture 4 in the first group shows very little rust/rot where battery tray originally was. Three holes are in the trunk and line up perfectly with correct battery tray. Area there is rustier than the front fenderwell. It was told to me that most Trac Pac installations were done one to two years after car was sold new. After speaking with and sending pictures to a couple of very knowledgeable people concerning this car they were convinced that this is a Trac Pac 442. The car has been off the road in a barn since the late 80's. I can agree to this by the amount of mice nests found!

 

It is obvious that the baffles on the sides of the radiator core support were cut and drilled for OAI ducts. It is also obvious that they were cut the "home made" way, not factory stamped, therefore it is a track pack not factory production line car. Also the holes in the floor covers in the trunk are offset on this car, centered on factory cars. There are more things to look for like holes in the vertical of the left frame rail in the "open" or C section part where the battery cable was retained. The key thing here is to acquire original or reproduction OAI parts and restore the car to its former glory!

Obviously, the most obvious W30 part the TP cars didn't get was the red inner fenders. Of course not red, but it does look like you have plastic inners. Yes?

Years ago I was in a junkyard and passed by a 67 Vista with the fenders removed.....the fenderwells were black plastic!! Still kicking myself over not grabbing them!

Yep I drug it back to NJ, 1350 miles each way. Although solid it needs TOTAL resto...came with a lot of missing pieces, bad pieces, and incorrect pieces.... Oh, 2 engines in pieces, neither one correct, a peg leg 69 pontiac rear, and a chevy muncie with a cracked case. Its a good thing most of what I need can be found in my parts stash!

 

A little progress and a purchase.....OUCH!

I got the bezels years ago from Curt Anderson. I think they are still available from him. I need a source for the brackets that hold the hoses to inner fender.... I mailed one guy on a lead and no reply at all....

Beautiful "post" project Like my 64 it's going to take alot of patiance and $$$$$ to bring these back. My 64 is going to be a "granny sleeper" street machine. Did the 400E come with it? Let me know if you need any parts. As many know my 67 442 is a resto-mod VERY non-original, but have some original parts in boxes. DSCN2119.jpg

 

That 64 is going to be a great plain jane-er.....no the 400 is gone, would like to put one in there but the prices are not in my budget right now. Just need a block.... I will be using a 67 425. the car came with a rusty 65 400 and a 70 455. Neither one appropriate in my book.

 

Are you not going to put the car back to original? A Trac-Pac POST is very unusal. But if you want to pound and cruise I fully understand that's why I am building my cars 64 and 67 (except for the Vette) my way to drive to the Saturday night burger joints or pack it up and go on the "Power Tour" in Vintage A/C comfort. I actually broke in my built 461 in the 67 on the 08 Power Tour. My old 67 400E is going in my 64, imagine a 400E maybe with L69 Tripower? With a 200R4 etc. DSCN1723.jpg

 

Interesting, the original 400 out of my convert went into my brother's 64 post but has since been pulled for a 455. The 400 sits in the garage as it belongs in my convert. The 67 post will be as original because that's the way I like em but will have a few things not quite 100% such as wheels, tires, etc I am not fond of the painted rims with dog dishes even though thats prob what the car came with.

What trans did you use when you had the 400 in the 64 post? This 64 is a major project that I have never taken on primarilly because it need floors and a trunk. Looks like your moving along on your project. Keep up the good work.

Great piece of history to restore. So what's the going rate on plastic 67 fender wells? I happen to have a pair.

 

Original red plastic 67 wells would be pretty desireable I would think but only came on factory w30 cars and not trac pac cars. They are reproduced as well and the Parts Place sells em. Plain black plastic wells are repoped too and originals would be favored over repops if in good shape. I usually put my stuff on ebay and let the world decide the value.

how much rot is in the car? it doesn`t seem to be too much

 

Not too much rot and by that I mean none in floors or trunk floor. Small amount of rot in usual places, around front and rear glass, one quarter under wheelwell trim, one front fender. No rot in doors or rockers. driver's side quarter, door, fender have been changed most likely due to a accident/sideswipe and thats why no rot there.
