69 Cutlass S convertible steering box change
Whats the most cost efficient and simplest way to change the power steering box ratio in my gear box? I've got the standard one now. i'd like to make the steering a little quicker. Is there another steering box i can buy that will bolt on with little changes to install?
You can buy new Lares boxes from rock auto or other vendors. I went with the 93-97 Jeep Grand Cherokee box from a junkyard. The JGC box you gives you the largest torsion bar you can get that comes with the full turn radius that is correct for our cars. You can get boxes that have larger torsion bars from other cars but you will lose some of your turn radius. The swap does require a new coupler and adapters to use your stock lines. All in it cost me under a $100 and took me one afternoon.
Here is the write up I did over on ROP
