66 F85 is here!!

Ok the 66 F85 arrived on Sunday. The car is what I expected it to be and then some. The car is a standard column shift, bench seat, no a/c, power brakes/steering. The car fires right up and drives pretty good too. (Might have to find Dad another vehicle!) From what I can tell body wise the car is unmolested minus the painted roof in place of vinyl one. The has very little damage which are mostly dings/dents that will come out and the worst being driver front fender where the bumper love tapped something and crunched it abit. Only rust found on the car is surface rust in inside trunk lid/near weather stripping. Also the doors bottom edges along weather stripping but both are solid and will be fine. The car was factory undercoated and it is undisturbed. No signs of floor board or trunk replacement. Bumper have great chrome but will need to be straightened from dents. Seat are excellent and I should be able to have drivers area repaired and leave others alone. Will need a headliner/rear sail panels/carpet/a few seat belts. Door panels are all good just will need a cleaning. Dash has 2 minor cracks that are hard to see and the bezel will need freshened up with minor repair. Nothing has been hacked inside. Everything works minus the blower control/lighter. Steering wheel is solid minus a few cracks. Car has power brakes with disc upfront and drum rear. Rear is a O type axle with 2.56 open/sway bar/regular control arms. She is riding on JJ coded 14x6 chrome SSIII's. Radiator looks to be a 3 core and the engine is a Olds 350/factory intake/Qjet/8 heads/sbo manifolds and dual exhaust. Has a nice trans cooler mounted in-front of radiator to keep the 700-R4 trans happy!!! I was quite excited to confirm the transmission after I crawled under to look at the pan. I was given the original 66 Owners Manual and the guide booklet containing the protecto plates!!!

Looks very nice.
Discs up front and an overdrive tranny, score!
I really like the chrome SS-3's Olds wheels too.

Yeah she is a decent looking driver. The car came out of Oregon and looks like was sold in WA originally The protecto plates are stuck to the holder and I'm afraid to try and remove them without tearing it up. I like the chrome SSIII's as well so probably will keep them on the car after getting refreshed.

Beautiful car! 2 tone paint was an option back then (D99). Take a look at the cowl tag and see if the PNT codes are A C.

Sounds like your 350 (#8 heads) is from 1973. Easy to tell if you look at the engine stamping pad. It should start 33(_)XXXXXX

That will be a great cruiser when it's all dolled up. Should get excellent fuel mileage with those gears hooked up to the 700.

The car has a 68-70 350 block in it based on the casting. The car originally had a vinyl roof which I will probably reinstall. The paint code according the cowl plate was CM.

Is the column shift modified to go into all gears?

?? All 68 - 76 350 blocks were 395558.
1968 - 1974 casting would be 395558 2
1974 - 1976 casting would be 395558 5

The date code on the stamping plate will be much more accurate. The Q jet on the car looks more like 72 or 73 with that anti diesel solenoid.

The CM PNT codes. There was no M code for vinyl roof so your car was 2 tone from all that I can see. I checked the 66 Assembly manual and don't see any vinyl color that matches M. So IMO your car was originally - Provincial white lower - Autumn Bronze upper

Sorry was having a brainfart the block is the 68-74 with 2 at the end. So she has a real powerful 350 that is from a Delta I was told and probably unmolested. Oh I'm liking that info on the Autumn Bronze. Thinking will repaint it like factory and the center of the SSIII to match the roof.

OK Allan correction the paint code is CW (looks like M in the cowl tag photo since I wasn't home to look in person) So does that confirm a vinyl roof? The car shows remains of where a vinyl room was glued down along the roof chrome channel. I know the dealer could have installed one or who knows along its life. OK here is the POP

995 CW 336176Z127907
W209574 A
ML23ON 00100

N.L. HACKER 25 726 some kind of symbol after the 6?

I suspect you're right that someone installed it on their own. The W code is for 'Silver Mist' paint. Just an FYI, when these cars were two toned, the same moldings that vinyl top cars had were used at the paint transition lines. That would make it uber easy for someone to convert it at any point to a vinyl top. Totally up to you with the choice of going paint or vinyl but I'm still going with your car was originally 2 tone only now it's Provincial white lower and Silver Mist upper.

Ok I'm not really doing too much with either vehicle as I will be going floating for the gov't very soon. So really just been watching for parts I may use in the build. As I looked at the car I thought the carpet and seat were original. Well today I got bored and pulled them because the car had a nice musty from the carpet. I found nice pretty much rust free solid original floors! Every car should be like this! haha Seats are in great shape so will still go with the plan of repairing driver side of bench. The rear has so deterioration but its the sides along the rear panels where will not bee seen.
