Damn Joe, I searched long and hard for a bulk place. I definitely would like to have more than the 2 I bought for $3 a piece.
Oldsrush & Duane, I went with the the entire Vintage air system for a Pontiac with the Oldsmobile compressor brackets.
Oldsrush, if you look back further in this post you can see how I converted their evaporator to use the stock coolant line locations.
Im not really sure where I’ll place the vents yet.
I might use the speaker grill as I’m not placing a speaker there. The others may just aim up through the defrost vent and out under the dash.
Probably not the most efficient, but it will cool the cabin I’m sure.

There is a pair of dash ball vents re-chromed on E-bay for a 65 Cutlass. I'm sure the 65's are hard as the 66-67 ones to find. 1965 Cutlass A/C Vents | eBay
Yep. Kinda rare but they are out there.
AC 442's with the HD cooling system.
The top radiator bracket is special to these as well(or at least has a tab welded on to hold the shroud.)
Well I'm getting closer...but one step forward 2 back.
The radiator sprung a leak, and my guy here in town closed...SO I brought 2 others to a shop about 1.5 hours away.
-Hooked up the GV unit with a button hidden down low.
-Installed the trans linkage which I was shocked that it fit just narrowly clearing the headers
-Installed the throttle linkage
-Hooked the Vintage air controls up to the factory cables
-Installed a new front seat and took it for a 25ft joyride
-Added some bright work out back!
REMINDS
me SO MUCH when I built the 64. Your doing great , hows your patience been? There were occasions I had to walk away from the project for a bit!
Awesome work Peter. Would you happen to have a pic of how far the Vintage Air Havac box .intrudes into the passenger leg room? Thinkng of installing one in my 64
Robski…yeah. Lately Ive been getting really tired of all the little things still needing to be done and the trans leaking and the radiator springing a leak and…
Its consuming.
James, it sits pretty low. But from riding height I don’t think you’d see too much?
I need to get seats done.
Oldsrush…I didn’t really have to do much modifications.
They supply a kit that hooks directly to the Pontiac heater controls…but instead of doing that, I just attached my cables to their slider switches.
Thats what that silver bracket is. Seems like it works so far…but it’s not charged yet.
The vintage air doesn’t allow for the stock glove box, so I decided to make my own.
It will house my digital media receiver and maybe a few usb ports.
(Looks straight forward but the glove box has a few stupid angles!)
Delivered the SMS seat covers and my blasted and painted frames to the upholstery shop.
Buffed the door card dividers and installed.
Test fitted a rear card.
Im now restoring some of the original windlace that I keep collecting.
I also finished the glove box. I think it looks pretty flocking good!
Yeah! I think it will look pretty damn cool.
The cheaper cars had some pretty interiors.
The glove box and radio are done.
Hopefully the last time I have to be under the dash…so I can feel good about installing the seats.
-I’m not so good about being upside down on my head anymore.
I've picked them up about every time I've found them. (You know they're hard to get)
These were from a failed restore I found in North Georgia.
Not sure I know of any places closer to France, JCDC. I imagine shipping would kill you.
But, try scouring US facebook market place and the other "for sale" sites on Facebook.
looking darn good Pete! i have yet to buy the vintage air kit, but good to know about the glove box. took a year to get the legendary seat covers when i ordered mine. hopefully i get them installed next year and get mine on the road. i've got 95% of the parts, just have to have the motivation and time to get it done.
I have to say Duane…Vintage Air is one of the few companies that are fast to reply and always try hard to get things right.
Hers a few pics of a bit more progress.
-SMS seat covers didn’t fit…waiting on some extra blue vinyl to fix the problem(3 weeks so far)
-door panels look great
-need to paint the blue(early take out) rubber floors I found with some SEM
Thanks Kevin. Im learning that they shrink over time. Adding some padding under the low spots gives you a little more width so I’m working on that with old moving blankets.
Content with all of the padding that I added underneath the rubber floor, I finally laid it all inside the car for the last time and started adding the seats.
I can’t believe I’m getting this close to being done.
I looked back through my photos and saw that I lifted the car up off the frame in December 2021.
