1958 Super 88 4 door hardtop

Hello . I bought this beautiful car to play with. There is a lot of work on it, but it is my biggest hobby. I will be very happy if you help me with advice. I can't take out the dashboard. Don't you have a picture where the screws are everywhere? Isn't it welded on the side of the window?

Welcome!!! More pictures, please. The 58 was/is affectionally know as a Chromemobile . You have some work to do, obviously. In answer to your specific question, the dashboard/ speedometer cluster should not be welded to anything. Unless someone did that sometime later. anything could have happened in the last 62 years.

Unfortunately the '58 dashboard was welded into , and was part of the body shell .

Here's how the rest of the pieces bolt in ;

Today, the body was finally removed from the frame. Unfortunately, it did not work without the use of autogen. I had to cut the screws on the rear bumper. I was still surprised by the left thread on the wheel nuts on the left side.
I'm so glad that my 16-year-old son is helping me with that. I wouldn't be so fast without him. It caught him and he spent the afternoons and evenings with me in the garage.
Now I will make a frame under the body, have it sandblasted and start boiling. In the meantime, I'll start disassembling the engine.

Glad to see you are on the right path, what are your plans on the project, restore to original or modify?

So far, I'm not sure which way to go. I'll definitely adjust it a bit. First I have to repair the body and the engine and then they'll see. To give you an idea, I am sending a photo of my previous project.

I would like to see you keep the original White with the Red top. The Red was called Festival Red (code 20) and the White was Alaskan White (code 60). You rarely see 58 Oldsmobile’s.

The color combination will be preserved, I really like it.I plan some modifications to the chassis and interior. And the exhaust. To my surprise, it's just simple.I'll try to make a dual.

Depending on whether you have a two barrel , four barrel , or three two barrels this is how they were .

Happy New Year to everyone.I am adding a few photos as I proceed with the renovation.Couldn't the history of this car be traced according to the number of guilt?or will any of you remember? It was supposed to be sold about 4-5 years ago in Burlington, NC.

Style 58-3639SD = 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 Deluxe Holiday sedan

Body L 1048 = 1048th body of that style assembled at Lansing, Michigan

Trim 370 = Seats , charcoal pattern cloth with ivory leather bolsters and silver vinyl accent .
Dashboard , lower Ivory lacquer , upper Charcoal vinyl

Paint 60-20 = lower body , Alaskan White . upper body Festival Red .

They're sort of Oldsmobile's version of the Edsel. But, if painted black, the gaudy back end's chrome trim could be best harmonized:

Great looking sheet metal work, and looks like you have a lot of it to do.

I will be following closely as I am starting on rebuilding a 58 Dynamic 88 2 dr hardtop.

Good luck with your project.

Thank you, it's slow, I have little time. I'm curious about your project. Do you have a photo thread?

I have considered starting a build thread but just haven't had the time. I have been taking pictures for reference. I'll let you know when I start posting.
