Our local upholstery guy charged me about $750 to replace my top and that happened almost 3 years ago. I had also already purchased a convertible top kit with the glass window before I found out that the upholstery shop would only install certain brands of kits. Fortunately, the kit I bought was one that they would install, and they did a great job of installing it.

I would suggest checking out a few upholstery shops and getting quotes from them before you take any action like buying a convertible top kit. Some of the more experienced shops are great at making their own tops from scratch. Others will have certain top kit brands that they prefer and may not install one that you have already purchased.

Like Randy said - well put!

That was what Lady's previous owner did. Both cost about 800 bucks, but the top was a good one, and with a glass tinted window.

I'm in the market for a new top, too.

I would agree, let your installer buy the top, liner, cables, etc and that way it will be warranted and you have a single source to go to if you have problems.

I talked to a shop this morning and he will install a new top for $1175. Includes top with glass back window, well liner, pads and cables. The labor includes cleaning out the gutter and lubing all the pivot points. I've seen his work on a few cars and he does an excellent job.

I stopped by another shop a few weeks ago and he wanted $600 labor to install and "about $700" (he couldn't tell me for sure)for the top, etc. Have not seen his work.

i had a place in rhode island replace mine. price was $800, they made it themselves, with a glass rear window. this was about 6 years ago, the top is still near perfect. a few of the staples in the seam that rests right above the windsheild have came loose, but i replaced them. all in all, i'm happy with the results, and the price. try to find a place that makes the top from scratch cuz they will usually make it fit better than a reproduction/replacement setup. also, the labor to make it ends up being less than buying a kit, in most (honest) cases!!
