Delta 88 Interior Instrument/Dash Panels
Delta 88 Interior Instrument/Dash Panels
I have the idea to take the plastic one piece wood-grain trim where my heater controls are, as well as the one where the headlight switch sits; and revamp/fabricate new ones for my 1980 Delta 88. The problem is I'm not entirely sure of the RIGHT material to use. I've popped the panels off millions of time and I'm almost certain it's a hardened plastic; but if I'm going to be fabricating them the best material to use. Speaking with a couple of my guys, I've heard to use wood and then treat it for moisture resistance and everything; and I'm sure that's a great idea....I'm just not entirely sure. I know wood is prone to flexing/bending/warping given the temperature and outside conditions (she IS my daily driver.), and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or any ideas as to a material to use. Any help is always appreciated, thank you fellas.
As far as the work; I’m almost inclined to say its LESS work than rebuilding a motor or swapping a transmission. The work isn't the problem or in question; its a matter of materials.
So did you have any suggestions or ideas? Or were you simply trying to tell me its unnecessary?
I have a complete panel that snaps into the dash that is in excellent condition if you are interested. Or is this something that you want to eliminate and custom make? As far as making it moisture resistant, I can’t see how this is subject to moisture unless you have a leak in your roof

I was worried about moisture moreso with using wood. I wasnt sure if there WOULD or wouldn’t be; I’m just the type of dude to have my ducks in a row before i start.
