Wrong/Bad parts?


One of my oldsmobile buddies gave me these parts because I mentioned I had the wrong glove box lock. Somehow I have the newer style on mine not the big round style like you see in the picture. Also, I told him I would like to add a Trunk light so he gives me this one. I think there’s a burn hole from the bulb in it? And I couldn’t find the orange wire because my card does not have the light package. Is there a way I can add it?and he gave me radio *****. I have an a.m. radio with the wrong ***** on it and they don’t fit I think the insert is missing. Is that all I need for the ***** or are those difference between a.m. and FM? Thanks I’m sure someone will know.

I can't add anything of value regarding those *****. What year is your 4-4-2? I'm not certain it's necessarily true you had to have a 'light package' in order to have a trunk light - I might be wrong. You'd think surely you'd get a basic trunk light w/o having to buy a light package. At any rate, my '71 CS convertible had the exact same trunk (hinge) light assembly. Don't know/remember/recall if what you're seeing is a burn hole or not. These trunk light assemblies are available from various vendors, I bought & replaced mine some years ago from somewhere (usual suspects, OPGI, Fusick, etc., etc). I would 'think' you have the orange wire already located in the wiring loom at the rear LH fender. It might be difficult to locate it because it might be hidden from sight. Grab a flashlight stick your head right up under the LH rear quarter panel/fender and find the lengthy wiring loom. It should be fastened to the inside edge of the trunk lip - I think maybe two clips hold that loom to the inside of the trunk lip. Remove the wiring loom and give a good detailed look for the orange wire. Ya know, even if you had to buy some 'light package' but didn't buy a light package, I suspect factory didn't add a single special orange wire for a 'light package' trunk light. I suspect that orange wire is hidden inside the wiring loom you just need to surgically remove it or look closer.

You can see how the orange wired is contained in the wiring loom. You might just need to surgically locate it inside the loom - hopefully. Reason I asked what year you have is I know other years they used the circular trunk lamp mounted on the bottom of the trunk lid itself. Do you have the clip located on the area where the torsion bars mount as depicted in the image w/ the arrow?

sry 1970 I have to really get under there.
I looked quick, usually you can see it but maybe it has been covered as this harness looks repaired. I was going to buy a new rear harness one day.
I mentioned getting the trumk light and the correct glove box **** and honestly seen bette.
just basically said on the spot see you next thursday and have the cash lol.
I was put on the spot not knowing if any of the parts can be Useful. The fact my key works my lock too dosnt help me paying for one without a key and then have to grt it coded.
It was mostly the way he left me with the parts and said see you next week.
I know he was trying to help, but he basically said here’s the parts have the money and it’s your problem now ha ha ha.
The price of it getting coded and the part is not that important especially if I don’t know it’s gonna work the trunk light maybe could have worked, but I’d rather buy one that doesn’t have a burn hole in it and what about the radio **** can those inserts be found or are those the wrong *****?
I could see taking them out of the other ****, but I have to destroy the ***** in order to get them apart. They dont just slide out you have to break the onow apart it seems.
sorry that’s a lot of writing and you’re right about the wire. I don’t think GM would add that wire. If you decide to get the light package it’s probably already there makes sense.

Will take me too long to find it (I'm busy).......but, there are a couple YouTube videos on how to reset a glove box key/set. I've done it once before some years ago. Basically, once the lock assembly is in your hand, you set the tumblers to zero with something like a toothpick, dental pick, paper clip, etc. Insert the key you want to use, then (re) set the tumbler positions to match the notches on the key. Best I can recall from my aging noggin.

Nice, so my question is it possible my lock is a late 70
' and correct its the newer smooth type, i will add a pic asap

I'd say it's possible - w/ nothing more than appearance it looks same as a 1971, IMO. No clue.
