Interior and Exterior Emblems

I am close to finishing off my 66 Cutlass Convertible.
The interior will be here next week.
Does anyone out there know what the background color for the Olds emblems on the trunk, grill and door panels are.
Thanks for your help

Ron

I thought the Olds emblems in the 60s had a red background. I could be wrong.

It's actually called "Oldsmobile Purple", a purplish red. Testor's used to have a paint marker that was as close a match as I ever found.

You may be thinking of Garnet Red. A color GM used for years as a body color as well as with Oldsmobile emblems. In the early '60s emblems were accented with either Garnet Red or Black. Garnet Red can be found at any place handling Dupli-color spray and touch up paint.

The whole interior of my '76 is that color I think.

Looks more like a maroon to me though. Perhaps this is the wrong color?

That is the color I was thinking of. They used the same red on emblems in the 60s, or at least a very close shade. Come to think of it, I have also seen them in black.

That's the color that I've always heard too. Even the catalogues for repro Olds parts refer to claret.

I still remember when the hood rocket on Dad's 67 was starting to look like it had been thru one winter too many. Don't laugh, he went to the drugstore and bought some claret fingernail polish. Damn stuff looked great and lasted nearly forever. Easy to touch up too.
