Installing Map Light Mirror

I'm assuming the trim around the windshield has to be removed to route the wire for the mirror. Any tips for removing this trim? Is it clipped on, glued on or fastened in some other manner? After removing this trim, then I'm guessing the A-pillar cover has to be removed and the wire ran behind it and then the wire goes to the end of the dash and up to the connector. Am I missing anything here? Seems simple enough but not wishing to destroy anything in the process and don't like surprises. Thanks!

The trim along the window needs to come off and the wire runs behind it. The trim is just a push on tight fit. If you grab it from either post you can generally get it to start and then just pull it and it should "peel off" without much effort. Take care as you get to the mirror as the moulding has a narrow piece connecting the two sides together that could be broken if you get to rough with it. Wire runs down behind the pillar cover and to the wiring behind the dash.

Here's a write-up I did on putting one in my 1985 Delta 88.

My headliner is missing, so it was easier for me to install. Nice little upgrade

Thanks! I'll take a look. I'm sure it can't be as head banging difficult as installing the light on the headlight switch for the 'LIGHTS' to light up...with the dash installed . That's a job I'll never do again. If that bulb ever burns out, the 'LIGHTS' will go dark until the next owner decides to change it.

Thanks Jeff! Good tip about the thin section in the middle that holds the 2 sides together...I probably would have missed that (tore that) without the heads-up. As it was, I was able to just detach the drivers side and route the wire behind it and tuck it back up....leaving the middle section in-tact.
