Ignition key operation

This afternoon I decided to take advantage of the great weather and pull the ‘72 Cutlass out of hibernation. When turning the ignition key, it was difficult to turn. Not like what happens when the steering wheel is turned and needs to be wiggled to get the key work. Instead it feels “gummed” up. The key worked, and started the car up, but a whole lot of more pressure than normal. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a column shift car, a factory floor shift, or a converted floor shift? Is the backdrive linkage connected to the steering column and adjusted properly?

The car is a factory floor shift car. As far as the backdrive linkage, I’m not sure. The last time I drove it, all was well.
