Center Console

Hi Guys,
Been out working on my 66 Dynamic 88 , and decided It was time it had a Center Console , reason being I did not want to cut or mess with the cars dash etc .
Wanted someplace to mount front speakers.

Knocked this up in a couple off afternoons after work, I,m NO woodworker , its kinda rough in places , but all in all , I think it was a decent first effort , or shall we say , Mk 1 Version .

Let meknow if anyone has ideas for improvements

Yea, I like it too. Kudos' for not cutting up your dash. Also looks like you could remove it to deter theft.

Thumbs up!!

I'm a second generation carpenter and have built tons of wood cabinets and I like it. I'm sure you will find improvements to make to the new MK II version after in-flight testing, maybe some cup holders?
Now you're giving me ideas for my Vista Cruiser. With bench seats there isn't anywhere to set stuff, and come to think of it... there aren't any cup holders anywhere.

Cupholders? We don't need no stink'in cupholders.......I don't think Detroit thought of cupholders until the mid eighties, then, only on mini-vans. Now they are standard on every vehicle.

Cool job. I am contemplating extending my 68 console since I don't care for the short one compared to my 70.

What about those round indentations on the inside of the glove box doors? My wife still doesn't use cupholders even though they are all over her car.

You got me on that one, I forgot about it. But really it's more like a cup shelf.

That's where you put your Coke when you go to a drive in Burger Joint [ or Drive in movie ] and I've had many a Bimbo dump Coke into a glove box.

And that's why Owners manuals are often stained.

Like the wood grain finish, it looks great and a super idea. When I was 16 in my first car I installed the radio in the dash with wood. Painted it black and nobody ever noticed.

There may be some un-used holes in the firewall that are pre-existing and just covered with a rubber stopper or grommet, or you may be able to use a hole that is already in use but has a little room for leeway to fit an additional wire. When you do get to it here is a trick. Get a nice long rod of spring steel, I work at a Motorola shop and we have old antenna masts available all the time. Visit a local two-way radio shop and ask for one about 18 inches long, they are very common. Slightly sharpen one end and use it as a probe to start a hole through an existing rubber grommet while the back end has the wire taped up to it with electrician's tape. It is much easier to "fish" the wire through and see it on the other side. You can then grab the probe with a pair of pliers and pull it and the wire through. Sometimes the tape slips off, just try it over again.
