I started to do my headliner and remove my sail panels from the car and there is another fiber backer board behind them and they are held on by metal tabs! does this board need to be replaced and if so what should I use for material? (buy more sail panel board?) and cut it to fit? or do they sell them and where?
Is it a firm board like the sail panel or is it soft to the touch? Usually under the sail panels there will be a soft insulation "pad" glued to the inner roof structure- it always crumbles when you touch it or try to remove it.
Restoration catalogs will likely have precut replacements- but you could replicate it with a piece of felt, trunk liner or something similar. Its really just to prevent rattling.
Many leave them out when doing sails or headliners, but it was there for a reason so its good practice to put something back in.
