Anyone ever hear of a 200mph speedo

Has anybody heard of a Hurst Olds with a 200 mph speedometer? If so how many were produced?

Most likely this is a Canada car with a 200 Kilometer per hour speedo - it doesn't say MPH or KPH so many folks mistake it for MPH - it does look cool though

I agree it must be a Euro-spec. Here's a cool 160 mph one though:

Actually, when US speedos were limited to 85 MPH in the bad old 1970s and 80s, it was common to use the 160 KPH Canadian versions and just re-gear the speedo driven gear to make it read in MPH.

He pretty much says that in the ad. I never considered it to be anything but a new sticker on the face.

200 mph speedo in '72 H/O

Just looking thru some old posts and like to comment on this. I remember hearing of one such car and did find a couple older articles about the 200 mph speedo.

The story told says they were made for testing at Indy with the '72 H/O which Hurst installed them in a couple cars. Supposedly installation was hidden due to speedometers not being Fed cert as OEM components. Don't know the part number but told it has one which falls in line with other speedo #s though omitted from the part's manual. Speedo also has an inline transducer. Doc Watson confirmed that about a dozen or so of these speedometers were made.

Who knows how it or any of them ended up in the cars but suspect some of the spare speedos found there way into dealer's hands or something.

Something I notice it also has the rare speed warning. Found UB7 (Speedometer Pkg Trip Odometer & speed warning) option available in '72 but most likely B & C cars. Cannot find any option for U15 (Safety Sentinal) past '70.

Thanks for the info Jon. That is very cool. I've heard bits and pieces about parts Oldsmobile made for prototypes and factory test cars. I'm sure they're as rare as hen's teeth now.

Not likely since we did not get metric Speedo until 1976.

I have three or four of those speed minder speedometers and none of them has a trip meter.I'm pretty sure they never made one with the trip meter.

Yea it's probably the B & C cars with UB7 option (Trip Odometer & Speed Warning) I'm thinking.
But the U15 Safety Sentinel option seems not to continue after 1970. So speed warning not available in '71 & up "A" cars?.
