ever hear of this option?

The other day I was glancing at some of the paperwork for my '71 cutlass vert, and I came across the original window sticker. I had not looked at it in a while, so as I was looking it over I noticed one of the options listed was "overstuffed front bench seat".

I have never seen that before. Was that a common option back in '71?

I think that was more commonly found on cop cars, taxis, and fleet type cars.cars that would see a ton of rough use. Maybe the original purchaser had a bad back or something?

I agree i gad a 1968 pontiac GP 4 speed auto on the floor that was ordered for a sheriff that had a real firm seat on drivers side. Passenger wasn't. By the way the sheriff got in trouble for buying it and not asking county first! he had to pay for it out of his pocket. He kept it awhile sold it! The guy who bought it financed thru a finance credit union. Then it got repoed and that is how i got got from the credit union. The story came from them but on the owner manual was the sheriffs name! He had a easy name to remember gattleman. Idk if it was sale pitch or not!The car was a dog till thirty then hang on very fast on top end.

Somehow I can not picture a cop using a convertible cutlass as a patrol car. I guess that I am going to go with the "bad back" idea. Unless the original owner was over-weight?

I will say this though, that over-stuffed seat makes for a very comfortable ride down the road.

I had a '69? Chevy truck with a very comfy seat. found out one day it was an option- "thick foam" or something like that. Well worth whatever its extra cost was.

OTOH at work we have 2013 Ford trucks with nasty seats that HURT to ride in.

The 1971 option list shows a B50, "Foam Front Seat Cushion".
When I bought it in 1965, there was a B50, "Extra Foam Padding - Front Seat Cushion" ($9.48), as well as a B52, "Foam - Padded Rear Seat Cushion" ($10.53). They made the situation a little better for someone with a big caboose (or even a skinny one who wanted more padding for their bones).
