Just wondering if anyone has put welds on a control arm (the hole on the frame) with the arm attached and bushings installed?

I still have to tack weld a washer on the outside of the rearmost drivers side lower front control arm hole b/c it is wallowed out a bit... but the control arm is on (with poly bushings). Just curious if the heat will destroy the poly bushing. I just don't like playing with compressing coil springs is all, but will do so if need be. tx

 

Poly bushings will melt, just like rubber!
Best way is to do it right - pull it off. Better anyway, as nothings 'loaded'!
Granted, PIA, but I'd be looking for another one - not a dependable repair.

It is the frame hole that is wallowed out, not the control arm. I was not clear.

 

You can take a chance if you want - with the bolt out you might get away with not melting it, but I wouldn't count on it.
No doubt the best way is to take it apart.

You can use a floor jack under the spring pocket and lower the A arm just enough. It would be best if you can loosen the other bolt but leave it in, because if both legs of the A arm come out, you will have more work getting them aligned again into their brackets.

 

You can also use a piece of 3/16" or 1/4" thick steel that is bigger so you aren't welding right on top of the bushing.
