FASTEN SEAT BELT warning light option

FASTEN SEAT BELT warning light option
There is an option on some Olds cars I think in 1972? It is a seat belt warning light mounted on top of dash. How does this work and what is needed to install this? Does it work off a sensor in the seat and what else is needed? Is this reproduced?

Those lights were only used on cars that had the optional Rally pack (Tach & gauges) AND that were manufactured after Jan. 1 of '72. There was a buzzer just to the right of the radio behind the dash & there was a seat switch/sensor mounted under the passenger side seat, bench or bucket. As far as I know it is not reproduced.

What Scott said. It wasn't an "option". It was federally required on all cars built after Jan 1, 1972. Regular Oldsmobiles had the light in the idiot light cluster. Rally Pac cars had the dash mounted light. Just out of curiosity, why would you want to retrofit one? What's the build date of your car?

I remember seeing one of these in a car about 30 years ago. I'm like what the hell is that? I was still learning about these cars & had no idea why it was on the dash. I think it was a '73 or later car also. Same thing with the no vent dash pads. I first saw one in a '70 Cutlass, (F85) & was shocked to see a cutlass dash with no vents. I only owned a few Cutlasses at that point & was on the bottom end of the knowledge ladder.

The seat belt warning light was ONLY mounted on top of the dash when the car was equipped with a Rallye Pac. The regular gauges had their own. No Rallye Pac then no warning light on top of the dash.

Koda & Dave are both correct, the 73-76 Cutlii only received the top of dash 'Fasten Seat Belts' lamp assembly with the U21 [Rallye gauge option], or the S/W got the 'tailgate ajar' lamp, obviously different lenses & harness but same housing appearance.

I also don't understand why it is not connected to a driver seat sensor. If the car is in motion, chances are there is a driver in the driver seat but it only has a sensor on the passenger side. Interestingly it only sets the buzzer off if the car is in drive and the passenger seat belt is unbuckled. You don't have to buckle the seat belt just pull up the male end a few inches and it shuts off the buzzer.

Costpenn is doing his thing on a 70 and he showed the buckets that were in it from 72 and the seat has the sensor for weight I'm guessing?
