waterpump 455

I was wondering if anyone here can explain what the difference is on the water pumps to a 455? I know that the engine is a 70-72 but there are apparently several different?

I recently changed the water pump on my 70 SX's 455.

I typed up everything about it if you are interested:

Here's a breakdown of Oldsmobile water pumps, showing year and application and height, as well as part numbers and casting numbers.

Very good site , what is the difference between the pump (5.07) from -68-70 and -71-72?

I did just update that page with a little additional information provided by the Feb. 1973 revision of the Oldsmobile Master Parts catalog....however, none of my literature explains the physical differences between the two.

I suspect that the early pump has a 1.75" inlet and the later one has a 2" inlet.

By the way, the chart shows FOUR different lengths for water pumps, 5.07, 5.57. 5.95. and 6.07. I'm wondering if the last two are supposed to be the same?

And just so there's no confusion, pump #1247079 for the 1975-76 Omega 350 (4.55") is not an Olds pump. It's a Buick 350 motor in that car. The same pump is used on the Buick 231 V6. Similarly, pump #488377, for a 1975 400 motor, is for a Pontiac 400. Olds did not make a 400 that year, the Poncho motor was used in the full size cars.

Thanks for the clarification, Joe. I just updated the chart to reflect this info.
