Two questions on 72 Cutlass Convertable

I am fixing my wifes 72 Cutlass convertable,I am new to the Cutlass world.Do conv and hardtops take the same body bushings? I really need to know about the core support ones, the ones on the car look like rubber square pads that someone cut out? The area of the core support where the mount goes is rusted, looks like someone did a crappy fiberglass job.So I am also looking for a core support.I have a very clean 70 Cutlass core support, but it does not look the same? What years will work on a 72.Thanks for all your help.

I don't know about the body bushing interchange, I suspect their the same between different Cutlass models but someone else will have to speak up to confirm or deny that. Yes the core support bushing used a round piece inside the frame rail and a square piece with a metal sleeve inside between the frame rail and core support. The metal sleeve from the square pice goes into the round piece inside the frame rail. This is a common rust spot especially the drivers side under the battery.

The core support from 1970 is different than 1972. You'll need either a 1971 or 72 from a Cutlass S, Cutlass Supreme, F85, Cutlass wagon, Vista Cruiser or 442 to replace yours. If the only spot that's bad is the support mounting point you might be able to cut out the rust and weld in a patch. John

Actually, 1971 and 72 core supports are slightly different. The 72 core support is recontoured at the raised areas over the grilles to clear the grilles on the Supremes that curve inward.

Thanks Joe, I had never really compared the two as they take the same hood (different from the 1970) so I figured the core support was the same. Thats what I get for making assumptions Here's a couple photos of the differences. This 1972 core support is available, although it's still on the car and it would be a couple weeks before I can pull it off. I believe it's in good condition.

Then you were asking about the core support bushings. I'm in the process of taking a 1971 apart right now and here's a few pictures of what the bushings should look like.
