Ignition Barrel Stiff

Hi All,
the ignition barrel is becoming stiff to turn when I turn it to start my 69 442. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there anything anyone would recommend to lubricate it or improve it?
thanks

Is the backdrive linkage in place from the steering column to the trans? Are the bushings possibly worn? Next time this happens, grab the collar where the shifter lever would be on the column and turn it as far CCW as it will go. If the lock cylinder is easier to turn, it's the linkage adjustment or wear. If the problem remains, it might be the sector and rack inside the column that the lock cylinder actuates.

hi,
thanks for replying. I’ll take a look, would this be the same for a floor shift car?

All 1969-newer cars were required to lock the shifter with the key, so yes. And if this car was converted to a floor shift, that's frequently the problem.
