Cowl tag mystery

could they have been expecting to run low on upholstery from the main supplier and to make sure it lasted thru the end of the year they had to strategically use covers from another bin (another supplier) ? Like every 20th car used material from a secondary supplier ?
maybe a bizarre suggestion, except that the plausible suggestions have already been refuted.
The Z must be linked to the trim code....not something unrelated.

Additional information on my car is that it was shipped in April 1970 to a car dealer called Lalonde Chev Olds Ltd., Ville de Laval, PQ. I noticed several users from Canada so I thought I might throw that out in case someone knows something about this dealer or others purchased cars from the same location. I believe that I may still have the original owners name also in some of the paperwork.
Stevengerard - If you lived near Dublin or Alamo, Ca. I believe that's where this car resided between 2000-2005. Then as you say it was purchased by a New York resident and then back to the West Coast again when I got my hands on it.
The cowl tag on my car clearly has the "Z" with no space between the 930 code. I'm not sure I understand what others are talking about when they refer to the Z49 option code and how it relates to the "Z" on the cowl tag....

I have seen the Z on both HT and post cars, bench and bucket seats, and different colour interiors. I do not recall seeing any with cloth seat inserts? Another thought: I know that headrests were standard equipment in 1970, but were they "required" by Canadian law and not U.S.?

There was no UAW strike during the 1970 model year. I hear people make this mistake all the time. The strike was late in the 1970 calendar year, which puts it in the 1971 model year.

My 71 convertible has a z code. Its a plain cutlass supreme convertible. 350 2 bbl vinyl split bench seat with armrest. Really no other options besides power steering and power brakes. It was in buffalo new York for a long time which is right across the border from Canada. Hope this helps

Consolidation ideas
There are 3 separate threads I know of that are all discussing this Z code trim option. Here are my 2 thoughts on this:
a) Combine all these threads into one big thread to consolidate posts into one area and avoid duplication? There's a lot of good information in all 3 threads that isn't necessarily shared between threads too. IMO it would make a lot of sense to amalgamate information instead of leaving it spread all over the place.
b I don't think this is really a cowl tag mystery per se (although the cowl tag is the messenger of the TRM code), it's more a mystery about the TRM code Z which is not exclusive to 1970. Have any of you who belong to Chev, Buick, or Pontiac sites found any similarities with this Z trim among the other GM A body brands? Any info from other olds sites that can be linked here???

Could the Z indicate something with the seat belts or shoulder harness? Or console brackets vs non-console cars. Neither of my W-31’s have the Z. One is a black bench seat 940 car and the other is a blue buckets 933 but no console. I agree that it would have to be something done with the body at Fisher so maybe console brackets?

Even bench seat cars got the "Z"
In relation to the stripes on my "Z" cars.....
The 70W30 with the "Z" has black stripes with Burnished Gold exterior and Pearl bucket interior.
The 70W31 with the "Z" has blue stripes with Twilight Blue exterior and Blue bench interior.(post car)
