Cowl tag ID mystery

Hi all,

I've been trying to positively ID my "numbers matching 1970 Cutlass SX VIN# 342670E103420.
I've confirmed the engine and tranny matches the last 6 digits in the VIN but I'm confused on the cowl tag. There is no reference to the last 6 digits on it so it makes me concerned. There is however a 159 on the tag that matches the "#8. Body Number E 00159" listed in the upper right box on the build sheet, plus the build sheet seems to match the car as well. Attached are pictures of the both the cowl tag and build sheet for reference, the cowl tag is blurry...(just couldn't get a good angle and focus) so here is what it reads so far. I know what most of the numbers mean but if someone could offer some insite to thier meanings I would most appreciate it.

COWL TAG:
Body by Fischer 1
ST 70 34267 E 159 BDY
TR 990 50 BPNT
08D

Thanks in advance any help.

Nick.

The cowl tag will not match the VIN, but the 00159 on the build sheet I believe is your proof.

The body number on the cowl tag is not the VIN sequence number. It's the Fisher Body number. The body shells were built before the VIN tags were installed. That's why the numbers don't match, but the build sheet does.

ST 70 34267 = 1970 model Olds 4200 series convertible (67)
E159 = body number - must match build sheet - built in Linden New Jersey
990 = Black Bench Seat Notched
50 = Bamboo Exterior Colour
B = Black interior trim
08D = Built in the fourth week of August 1969 - will have the L33 engine or W32 Engine

Actually, that B means his convertible has a black top.
