Does anyone know if the bottom piece for the charcoal cannister is available?

Did it used to look like this?

This is the bracket that holds the canister.
I know they are not reproduced - used would be your best bet.

The canister itself and the bottom filter are all i know are available.

 

I am not sure maybe if so I am missing a few inches LOL

 

I was thinking the same thing Rob.

Those steel eating rats really got to that one if so.
Why does every bolt or nut you drop anywhere near that canister go right underneath it?

 

Well blue I might be better off with no holder then I can just pick up the darn thing to find my drooped parts ha ha.

Hey Rob, it looks like that one in the pic is a little rust encusted and has a few holes in it?
Moisture must sit in-between the canister and the bracket.
I've never seen those reproduced either and the part number doesn't turn up anything at GM or Vparts.
Try posting in parts wanted, maybe John/2blu442 has one somewhere in his treasury-o-old-Olds parts.
Do it quick before Rob does.

 

The way the canister fits in the holder, water is held between them very well also.
This was the worst rust I had on the car, after the lower front fenders and battery tray. The tray and canister holder were POR15'ed, so no more rust for them for a while...
After the battery and canister are installed, yo can't see them anyway.

1971 442 Convert , as bad as yours look, velcro (or DT) would be an alternative until you can get a usable steel piece. If you get one, POR15 it...

 

Maybe you can get one of those charcoal canister holders out of a Chevy or Buick...

Measure your canister and visit your local u-pull-it yard. Like Olds64 said, those cans were used in many different GM cars and trucks. You can even make your own mounting holes and since you cannot see the mounting when the can is installed, originality is not compromised too much.

According to Rockauto, the 71's 455 can is interchangable with:

BUICK(1972 - 1995)
CADILLAC(1971 - 1995)
CHEVROLET(1973 - 1995)
GMC(1974 - 1995)
ISUZU(1991 - 1994)
OLDSMOBILE(1971 - 1993)
PONTIAC(1971 - 1993)

Should be easy to find a holder!

 

I believe later years didn't use a holder like that. The inner fender is molded plastic and had place for the canister to set in, no bracket. If I'm remembering right.

 

Very true - I am sure you are right. To find a metal holder, look at the 70's vehicles of all GM brands.
I think my 86 Olds has a molded 'holder'...
