The round black vapor storage tank behind the left headlights should be the part in question.

I had one on my car and I got rid of it , but now I have that metal line with no place to plug it in , Can I just get rid of it or do I need a new canister also?

I would just get a new or used cannister. It plugs and vents the line and reduces fuel odor if parked inside.

Yep, The vapors are stored there when parked and when the car is started, the fumes are sucked into the manifold to be burned.

You can get them at the junk yard a lot of them are the same or interchange. As long as it is not crack or full of fuel then it will be fine just replace the filter before installing it into the car.

Ok Thanks !
I have not found a junkyard though in Minnesota that has a car older than the 80s.
Looks like ebay unless someone on here has one.

If you're not worried about factory matching numbers, I have a pile of them from 77-85 GMs.

It goes to the carburetor. if you are facing the carburetor on the right side in the front there are two lines that looks like vacuum lines built into the carburetor. the bigger one is where the hose from the cannister connects to. I am looking at an assembly manual.

MJAKS462,
I'm pretty sure I've got a couple of those things in the shed. It would have given you a reason to stop by. I didn't see this post in time.
