1968 Bumper Jack Rubber Insulator

I recently purchased the Cutlass Bumper Jack Part OPGI #CH27963, and when I went to put the Jack Shaft Insulator, Rubber on the OPGI Part #C230044 onto the jack shaft it is too large (see attached photo; the sleeve on the left is for the lug wrench) by close to an inch. The jack shaft is 4 1/8" in circumference, and the insulator is 5" in circumference. In photo I saw in the Fusick catalog the rubber insulator fits snug on the jack shaft. Fusick doesn't sell the full jack assembly, therefore I purchased mine from OPGI since they were the only ones selling the complete jack and accessories. What I am wondering, from the factory, did the rubber sleeve fit loosely or snug? Or were there different size jack shafts? I am trying to make my jack and accessories as close to original as possible.

The 68 Assembly manual doesn't show a boot for the lug wrench for any spare configuration. In addition, you appear to have SSII wheels
(from your sig pic on OldsCentral). With Rallye wheels the lug wrench is stowed in clips mounted to the back of the trunk, not under the spare. It's shown in Section 10 Page 117 (below). As you can see in the pic below there were four different manufacturers of jack assemblies in 68 too. I've seen 68's with "T" shaped jack shafts and also those made out of extruded tube steel (more common). I don't know if both are correct but it certainly makes sense because of the four different part numbers.

The spare I have in my car is just the steel wheel. Not sure if that was what if came with from the factory, but that is what was in the car when I purchased it. In my manual, it looks like the wrench goes into a sleeve, however, I don't see a sleeve for the jack shaft. In the photo from Fusick, they have a sleeve that looks like it fits snug, but in another photo I saw posted on August 19 from Oldspackrat, it looks like the sleeve is loose similar to the sleeve I just purchased. Any thoughts from anyone?

Hi Jeff!
Replying from the resort where we are staying in Lake Tahoe so everything is off the top of my head. I don't ever remember the rubber sleeve from my car and it originally came with steel wheels. I just recall the tire iron being placed under the spare tire alongside the jack. And, if a car was ordered with SSII wheels, the spare would have been a SSII wheel as well, with the clips for the tire iron as shown.

Jacked outta shape

This is the jack from my 72, I would venture to say its seldom seen the light of day, take note of where the tire iron is placed. This was not a SS wheeled car though.

When I had my '68 Cutlass, the tire iron was stowed as shown in PackRat's picture.

I was the second owner. It was my first car, and purchased from the original owners, one of whom was a coworker of my mother. Kind of a ramble here, but just trying to establish that I feel it was delivered from the factory that way.
