1972 442 broadcast card, do I have enough proof

Okay I just bought a 1972 442 convertible, 350 car. I found the broadcast sheet in the back of the bucket seat. The hog nose ring went through the "2" area, on w-29. I am attaching pictures and would like and opinion if it is a real 442. You can still make out the 2 when you blow it up, that picture attached also. I believe it is a 2 anyway. The last 6 of the vin is not on the card but the body numbers are the same. Is the w29 in the correct block also. I am going to keep looking for other proof.
Appreciate any help.

Kelly

It looks like a 2 to me. What other W_9 option could it be?

w39

according to this website there is a w39, 3 speed hurst shifter. I am taking that as dual gate and the car has one. The number looks nothing like a 3 to me. The dual gate may have been added to the car, a few things have been done to the car. The car shows no signs of cutlass supreme trim down the sides or any rocker molding.

Hi there,

The 2 broadcast cards I have for my 72 have the W29 listed in the same location - BOX 12.
My broadcast cards also show the Y60 in BOX 13 just like yours.

Cheers,

I agree with Sam - box 12 is the correct location. Other than an original window sticker, that documentation is about as good as it gets for a Lansing-built '72 442. Also, the W39 three speed shifter is for the 3 speed manual transmission, not an automatic.

any ideal what the red tag was for? I see it on another guys picture in another discussion. No writing at all on my tag.
Also my car has the dual gate, should it have been on this boadcast card?
Thanks for the help proving the car is a 442. I fealt like the car was a 442 but paperwork is the only proof for this car.

That is the correct location for W29 so if the body number matches the cowl tag as you say then Terry is right. It is definitely a 442 and not much else can top that document. I suggest protecting it dearly.

W26 - dual gate shifter will NOT be listed on the broadcast card.

Correct, the W26 was listed on the build sheet in box 107. Note, this isn't the build sheet for a 442, but it is a rather good example of a special order Cutlass S with a U code engine and code 19 paint.

Here's an example:

Here's some other documentation you don't often see for a 72 442

Wow Alan, would love to have that documentation for mine!! What determines which options are on the card vs the sheet? My 72 is a factory OAI, rallye pack car. The hood doesn't show on the card but the U20 (I think) for the gauges does. It was built in Lansing so I won't be spending any time looking for a sheet. Actually have 2 cards including one that the PO provided and one that I discovered on the pass side under the sill plate between the front and back carpet. Anyway, great discussion in this thread.
