Thornton 455 Engine Mounts

Has anyone tried these from Thornton? What's the preferred motor mount for a 455 at the moment?

There is only one maker of these mounts and they do not fit correct. Save your energy and go with a 350 frame pad and 350 mounts.

Or redrill these to work but that is not an easy task. Joesw31 told me these don't fit worth a crap and I had to learn the hard way he was right.

Appreciate the steer, guys. I will stick with the factory mounts since they are in decent condition.

Anchor 2328 mounts, $8.99 each at RockAuto. I use the Anchor mounts all the time with no issues.

The 455 mounts with no issues? Joe told me I would have problems and I fought them so bad I was about to toss them int he trash. They were in a bind so bad that the engine didn't sit right. I had to take it back apart and drill them to get them to go in with less bind.

This was in 2014 or 2015 so maybe they made them better now?

I've been using the Anchor mounts for over 20 years now. Only one part ever had a fitment problem - the two holes that bolt to the block were a little too close together. A little quality time with the die grinder solved that problem.

So not true “plug and play.”

I guess the set I had must have not been Anchor. I thought only one place were making them? The set I had was really bad.

Anchor, Pioneer, Westar, DEA. Note that they all use the same part number. Does that mean they are all made in the same offshore factory? Who knows. I do get a little miffed by vendors who simply slap a sticker on what is obviously an Anchor box and charge 3X the price.

I have used the anchors from Rock Auto and no drilling or adjusting, just leave them loose till you have the engine positioned and the bolt in and then tighten everything. Thanks Tim

Wish I would have read this before ordering mounts from Thornton a while back. Went to install today, not even close to fitting the frame pads. Will the Anchor 2328 work on 1970 442? On rockauto, it lists for 1971 only. For 1970, they list 2362 (right), and 2263 (left, not available).

Once again, DO NOT rely on RockAuto fitment info, especially for Oldsmobile motor mounts. Read THIS THREAD.

And FYI, EVERY SINGLE OLDS A-BODY made uses the same mounts on both sides. If a listing tells you they are different RH/LH, run, don't walk, away. The only Oldsmobiles to use different RH/LH mounts are the 1965-70 full size cars, which are the only application for the 2262/2263 mounts.

Thank you Joe, great information. So, I compared the Anchor 2328 from Advance Auto, and they are the EXACT same ones I got from Thornton. After re-reading this thread, I loosened them from the block, and rotated them into the pads. Then tightened back to the block. That did the trick. I've had this motor out a few times with the original mounts, and never had to loosen them from the block to get the holes to line up on the frame pads. I guess the new mounts are too stiff to flex into place.

Good to hear. I've almost always had to leave the mounts loose on the block, so now I just do it as a matter of course.
