yes, so dang solid it’s crazy. Someone started working on it, tore it apart, looks like new body bushings were mostly put on. Needs a lot of love but the fact it’s a true L69 kept me interested and intrigued at the same time.

I would call it a basket case. Basket case is not to be confused with a parts car.

Yes, this is the definition of a basket case.

If the vehicle is rotted out, missing all the key parts, then its called a POS

It's good to see someone saving a genuine L-69, instead of just cloning one.
A "body off" restoration is a long, hard process.
But it is very satisfying to say you've done it your way.
I'm just finishing up a twelve year restoration of a '63 Dynamic 88.

Is this your first rodeo?
Or have you done a "body off" before?

‘I have never done a body off resto. I have done several on frame cars. I won’t be doing a body off on this either. Previous folks pulled the car apart and kept all pieces in a very disorganized fashion but there. it appears they pulled the body off and put new bushings and primer the frame. So I’m gonna take it from there as I don’t have the hoist and things to lift the body and I really don’t wanna do it because it’s so damn clean there’s no rust in the floorboards or the trunk other than than a little bit around the drain plugs. Obviously I gotta strip all the paint and repaint it and put the whole car back together. Put the motor in. I will have to do some wiring definitely, possibly a new harness, you know I’m an older guy so it’s gonna take me probably a year or a year and a half maybe two years to do it all. But you know that’s why I bought it because I like doing that kind of stuff and I do it all myself and if I get a pinch, I have friends that know things and I have this website that’s helped me immensely with other cars so that’s the plan . Guys like Mike Richards have helped me and guided me on my first 66 and I will be pestering the **** out of him on this one,,Great guy…couldn’t do this without him..But you are correct it being a true L 69 is what intrigued me as I already have a 66 track packed car, that started out as a four barrel and I turned it into a tricarb car, then turned it into a track pack by buying the shroud and the kit from Curt Anderson and instructions and put it all together and that was quite an undertaking because I had to weld in a new trunk and everything else for that car. However I’m looking forward to it.

TT code, Sierra Mist, white interior, no console. It’s going to remain black with white interior tho. Weird my other 66 is a Sierra Mist paint car repainted black, black interior car, both last week of June builds as well. my other car is a four barrel car that’s been transitioned into a tricarb track pack car, this one will remain as original just a L 69 tri carb Car.

You're correct, that is weird! So many similarities it's striking!! (kind of an understatement even)
I do like the black, and it reminds me of high school a day when a classmate's older brother's car was in the parking lot, a black '66 442 with a huge racing trophy sitting in the front seat and 2-4's poking thru the hood. I love a '66.

Excellent!

I thought about changing the color to something different but I like the black on a 66 442..even my wife agreed knowing I already own a black 66..she said the white interior on this one will pop..so black it shall remain.

Well some progress, sanded and lightly primered trunk floor. Replaced most drainage plugs and had to fabricate a piece for the shift tunnel where someone hacked the hell out of it. Made the piece, welded it and and grinding the welds down. Boot ring should fit perfectly. Next up is sand and prime interior floor pans, rebuild all brakes, then start underneath cleaning and painting the bottom side..

Made some progress, another coat of primer in trunk. Wire wheeled the cabin floors, found a few tiny pin holes otherwise super solid. I used a little all metal on those few tiny pinholes. Reworked the floor boot after welding in the patch on the porch where it was cut out. Reworked that metal so the boot ring will fit nicely now. Will clean prep and paint trunk and floor next..then underside after this complete..

Are you using trunk paint or Zolatone in the trunk?
Or just the black paint?

Looks like a lot of hard and dirty work has already been done for you,

I used rustoleum oil based primer, sprayed Rustoleum oil based black over the top of two coats of the primer..wire wheeled it all first, put in new floor plugs, cleaned with degreaser before painting etc. 66 we’re body color paint, not spattered paint. Car will be black so trunk black.

I got the underside wire wheeled. Cleaned and painted. Needs some touch up tomorrow, then the front engine compartment and chassis before starting on brakes. I think I showered 2 pounds of dirt and wire wheel wires stuck in my body tonight..long day

Doing some more detail painting while waiting for new brakes to install all around. Removed the passenger side fender well, much better access..Lot of laying on your back cleaning and painting but hey it gettin done if ya don’t get your **** in motion right? the gas tank looked rough but about an hour plus with a wire wheel and it cleaned up real nice, other side was another hour plus to do. I don’t see any pinholes, but I’ll keep cleaning it and getting it right and then I’ll pressure test it maybe run a little bit evaporust inside as I saw a tiny bit of rust in one corner. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to coat the inside tank with?

Note to self, before prepping and painting the trunk make sure the body mount caged nuts aren’t broken loose inside.. had to do some surgery to fix that..need to repaint that trunk area. Gas tank cleaned up nice. Shows the original grease writing of 93 on it. Anyone know what that number is? Then I painted top side satin black, bottom side aluminum. No pin holes etc. moving right along on this car. Starting brakes tomorrow..

Nice work Andy! And that gas tank looks great for its age. Did you decide on any interior protective coating for it? I dropped mine back in early 1981, had the exterior lightly sand blasted and put a couple hand fulls of large gravel in it giving it the old shake shake shake! Followed that with an interior water wash and after it was dry an interior wash with Ospho. Had some pin holes in the top which I patched with fiberglass. Put it back on and it has been fine.
