I have a 72 olds cutlass 442 with a 455ci motor was wondering what kind of springs and shocks are good on the market.dont want to go cheap but good ones.where is a good places to get them.

 

The Original Parts Group catalog has a thorough listing of coil spring applications for the Cutlass. I've also heard many here recommend the KYB Gas-A-Just shocks as well.

The front springs are matched to your car. The stock springs seldom need replacement and are correct for your car...

I usually leave them alone. I like progressive ratio springs in the back ...

What will your car be..? Daily driver, occasional drags, trailer queen ..?

the car would be used for weekend driving the car sits front and rear at 10 inches from the ground to the bottom of the rocker under the door is that what it suppose to sit at

Another place you can check for springs is Eaton Springs in Detriot. You can google them for their contact information. They have the blueprints for every American car since 1906, and can also customize your application if you want them lowered, etc. A quality product for a little more money but it's worth it.

KYB's and Monroe's are both good shocks so you won't go wrong with either.

 

i bought eibach(edelbrock) springs and shocks for our cutlass

the ride height was perfect(no sag),ride wasnt too firm or bouncy

i recommend them

 

Moog makes a great GM (1968 - 72) replacement coil spring. I just had Moog springs and AC Delco shocks mounted all around.

 

STLBLUESBROTHER LET ME ASK YOU SOMETHING IF YOU GET A CHANCE CAN YOU TAKE A MEASURENMENT FROM THE GROUND TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FENDER WELL TRIM AND THE REAR FROM THE GROUND TO BOTTOM OF THE FEDER WELL TRIM.ON MY CAR THE FRONT SITS AT 25 INCHES AND AND REAR SITS AT 27 INCHES JUST WONDERING IF MY CAR IS SAGING THANKS.

I have the '71 442 specs?
With a full gas tank, correct tire pressure, empty trunk and measuring to the lowest portion on the outside edge of the rocker panel 1" rearward of the front door opening by the fender and 3 inches forward of the rear wheel opening the numbers are 9-13/16" and 9-11/16" respectively.

They do sit slightly lower in the rear (1/8") and lower than any other A body model, wagons are the highest.

 

The chassis service manual has all the carrying height specs if you have one, if not, get one.
