Political discussion screw up EVERYTHING!

I fondly remember the days when people could have a difference in opinion on just about anything and still function like adults.

I’m sure the same whiny political chest thumpers will still have things to complain about on the spring.

Great cars of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, ok a few 80’s should be the only topic on a classicoldsmobile site..its the one thread of commonality with members, why **** it up with politics..I have loved all things auto since I was little boy, my brother and I would sit in junked out cars pretending we were fixing them up as we lived in an old run down neighborhood. No shortage of clapped out cars in alleys and abandoned lots in the midto late 60’s.. I still have the same car passion to this day over 50 years later.. tons of knowledge on this site, learned a lot about Oldsmobile

Yep. Nowdays we have folks on both sides who just can't contain themselves. Either have to inject something political into a discussion, or react like a toddler to that political injection.

I've pitched that idea before. I don't think the moderators are capable of adjusting the forum layout with this software. On the other extreme, there's yellowbullet forums, where a valid defense to someone calling your girl a ho is to post nasty pictures to show she's somehow not.

Having a section on this website where anything goes is a terrible idea. It's bad enough that some of the folks here can't help themselves anyway, but I certainly would be less inclined to visit the site if I had to be exposed to that nonsense.

"pitching an idea" doesn't mean its a good idea. If people want drama, they can watch "Days of our lives". This site has a purpose and a following. People come here because of the knowledge, help and rules. If "yellowbullet" is great, you should consider staying there, you'll never be happy here.

PLEASE continue to keep politics out of this fantastic Oldsmobile specific site. Why would anyone come here to discuss politics anyway? That is like going to the laundromat to buy lawn care items and building supplies. You're in the wrong store; go somewhere else, not this site.

I completely agree that today it is about "which side" you are on and hence you are either right OR wrong. Do I agree with every method and piece of advice given by every member? No. Do I respect and learn from their viewpoints? ABSOLUTELY and I thank them for taking the time to offer their opinions.

So why have we come to the "sides" point? Perhaps it is a product of a society in which some have never had to fight or die for a unified team effort such as supporting their country. THANK YOU to those that do! The divisiveness in our society scares me. Look back at those who came before us just one or two generations, they could not afford the inherent weakness of a divided effort. They had to work together toward one common goal while setting aside and respecting each other's differences.

Sadly I must admit to now having participated in a political thread even though it is anti-political.

Thanks to all that keep this site going. Be well and good luck!!!

Military service has nothing to do with the ability to listen, respectfully disagree, and compromise in order to arrive somewhere in the middle.

The last sentence of your comment that I quoted above and put into bold text is the heart of the issue. If we have proper leadership that sets the example of working together for the benefit of the people while also being respectful of others in their words and actions, then we can start to come back together and heal.

And see, this is the problem, people taking potshots. I don't care if you think my ideas are good or not, but you shouldn't comment negatively on them without being asked. This is the second time in 24 hours you've gone after me.

Not sure what point you are trying to make here with being vague, but I stand by my comment. I respectfully disagreed with his comment as it related to being a product of a society where people didn't have to fight or die for something, like in defense of their country. I agreed with his comment about compromising, and elaborated on it in my own words.
