No postal money orders
A month ago the post office we go to didn't have any rolls of stamps - only books. Kind of surprised but I guess they run out of supplies from time-to-time. Went back a week later and the rolls were there. I've never liked Western Union because the fees seem pretty high compared to a postal money order.

My local Post Office always cashes any USPS Money Order I bring to them unless they are low on cash resources at the time... If I go in mid afternoon, most all the time there is cash available unless it is an extremely large amount... Also, The Post office can determine immediately if the money order is fraudulent when they run it through their machine...
Same thing around here. No rolls of stamps and no money orders. And that's only after a 10 billion dollar forgiveness- for WHAT? Sucking at what they do? USPS, losing packages and letters and pissing you off since (insert your birth year here).
One at least partial answer is stamps.com. I love them. I haven't stood in line at a post office since March 13, 1986. I print my own stamps at home, and you get a discount over what you'd pay at the P.O. for a stamp. First class stamp now is 55 cents, I pay something like 51 cents. Not a big difference, but it adds up. I have my own postal scale that will hold up to 50 lbs, and the weight is read directly by the stamps.com software on my computer. I print all the mailing labels and postage I use at home and then just drop the package or letter in the box at the PO or a corner mailbox if it will fit. I walk right past all the people standing in line and note that most of them could do what I just did and stop wasting their time in lines.
Of course, there is a fee to use stamps.com, and, if you want to use the sticky-back blank postage stamp sheets to print your stamps, you have to pay for those. But the convenience more than offsets the cost. AND, you don't have to use stamps.com at all if you don't want to. You can print postage and everything right at the post office's own website without paying anything other than the cost of the postage itself. My wife does this whenever we want to ship something to our daughter and her family currently living in Germany. She can print the mailing label with postage and the customs forms right at home, stick them to the box, and drop it at the PO without standing in line.
Remember, the post office doesn't want you standing in line or even going to the post office any more than you want to do it. The post office WANTS you to use services like their website or stamps.com. The fewer people that have to go to the post office for any reason, the fewer people they need to hire to staff the service counters.
When we did buy actual stamps, we never bought them at the post office, anyway. We always bought them in the checkout line at the grocery store. I never found a grocery store that doesn't also sells stamps, and they cost the same as the post office charges, so there's no cost disadvantage in doing so.

That's the advantage of the US Postal Service money order--cashable at any Post Office, no bank account needed; and therefore no ten-day hold on your bank funds while the money order "clears".
The biggest problem the US Postal service has is...Congress.
Dirtbag politicians have determined that the US Postal Service must pre-fund the retirement accounts of employees that haven't been born yet. No other business on the planet has to do that. Congress WANTS the Post Office to fail.
Problems with your Post Office? You need to be in contact with your Congresscritters.
The post office has lots of problems, some of their own making and some not. But I don't think Congress wants it to fail for several reasons, one being that it's one of the most popular government agencies. But more importantly, unlike pretty much all the other services the government provides, the post office and mail delivery is actually called for specifically in the Constitution. To completely get rid of it would require a constitutional amendment.
Our small substation post office won’t cash them, but the main will if under 1k. I always take them to the post office as opposed to my bank. Have heard of fraudulent usps mo’s out there. Cash them at your bank and the bank will take the money from your account if it doesn’t clear.
The government is trying to kill the post office, making them fund their retirement fund 75 years out, while they run a deficit.

I like the USPS. They do a good job and are one of the most reasonable priced postal services around the world.
Not all in congress want to make the post office fail. HINT: Which ones make the most noise about the post office losing money ? Do your own due diligence.

Our post office has not delivered mail for 8 days. This, after a dusting of snow and temperatures equal to Ohio in springtime, sigh. High of 45 yesterday, roads clear, still no delivery.
Last week they returned a mis-addressed envelope to me. I mailed it December 1.
There is no service that government cannot aspire to make worse.

The service from the post office continues to decline. We have a substitute carrier on occasion that I am not sure even speaks English. He puts everybody's mail in the wrong box. Our regular carrier is very good and a really nice person. Does anybody else ever take a look at the age of the mail carrier vehicles. These things look to be ancient. If they all die at the same time nobody will be getting any mail. Where will the post office get the money to replace them? We can all probably guess.
For what ever reason(s), that would appear to be the local postmasters decision and not the norm for other facilities... IMO, I would check with the next closest postal facility for their procedure...
