DX billet cranks

They’re here. This batch (9) is spoken for but if anyone is interested I will most likely be doing another batch right away. ETA would be late spring.
Thanks!

Yep, about $2900.00 for crank, I-beam rod, Mahle piston with rings. It yields 434ci.

Okay. You think you will be getting these often?
Not ready for my DX build yet, but don't want to miss out on a crank

Not really. I have to pay for these up front so I’m not one to order a bunch of them then sit on them waiting for them to sell. If you want one of the DX style ones then I’m asking for deposits. Not everyone has a DX or has access to one. They’re not as common as a gas block so that’s why I ask for deposits on these. Hope that makes sense.
Thanks.

Can we start a support group for those of us crazy enough to do these builds? Who are the other 8? Come on, you guys can fess up.

What's everyone doing for caps? I'd like to get a set from Peyton, but he's busy with his real life.

Yes makes sense. The job I was to head back to has been shut down from BC Health due to major outbreak of covid around the GVA. We are over 12 hours away from the source. Guess government knows best.

What is the shelf life? Can't see me doing the build this year but can see it happening in 2022.
If I purchase the crank, can you store it?

An old school friend of mine, his dad had a 5.7 diesel in a half ton. I messaged him about it and said it's laying around on the farm somewhere. And well the conversation grew and peaked my interest. His dad has lots of 5.7 diesels sitting, my first reaction was to say 4 blocks. Apparently that's not lots. His dad has been collecting them since the 80's and is ready to sell his collection. Been told I will spend a half a day there. Since not heading back to work for a month, I am going to have to see what he has.

A bunch of guys from FB, Gaston Cromwell, Alan Fillebrown and a few others, including EMC’s own Greg Finnecan. The build he bought from Brad finally blew up.

Grab them if you can. It’ll payoff in the end I promise.
Yes I can store it in an A/C controlled room no problem.

DX main caps look meaty, but have only looked at gas 350 ones before. ARP studs for sure. Bill T. did a turbo dx with the original main caps. Not sure how that went? I would not drill hole into webbing to add extra bolts. To me the whole point is to have heavy webbing.

Look at a DX block locally, but was cracked. Been using magnaflux spotcheck kit to check used parts. Works pretty good

For most power levels the stock DX caps with a set of ARP studs will do just fine.

When I acquired mine and pulled it apart I found one of the main caps broken in two, didn’t seem to phase it, I don’t remember the crank showing any damage. Go figure.

Oh yes I will be grabbing them if good price. Apparently I will get them cheap is what Ray said. What Ray thinks is cheap and what I think is cheap might be different. 50 bucks an engine is cheap. Lol

Spray can type. Has to be clean! I have to read the instructions every time, to get it right. Also get a magnifying glass to help find hairline cracks.

Take a few cans of brake cleaner. Look pretty much all of the above. I have the aerosol cans. I am 45 minutes from Las Vegas. If you are coming this way, think of me. DX one

Okay cool. Was looking at this product.
I have 3 D blocks and one DX block atm.
Mark spoke for a D block and the DX block I have I want to use. Know bushings need to be installed for the lifters.
The four I have, I will be soaking them in the spring.
But........ with this said, my friends dad has "lots" of 5.7 diesels laying around in the shed. So will see what comes of this in next couple of days.
I am in Canada so might be issue for myself to bring blocks across border. Will have to research to find out how to.

Back in 2011, bought a new trough machine from New Tech in Denver. A fellow had rear quarters for my car in Texas which I was to grab for in exchange of bring a car from ND to him.
So was going to go down there to do the switch a roo, and swing over to Denver and grab my machine and head back home.

Apparently offering trade is a big no no!!! Was labeled an illegal. Oh good times. lol

So for shats and giggles, I did a freight quote from YRC Freight. To ship a block from here to Mississippi is a 180 dollars. To ship 3 blocks, it's 180 dollars🤷‍♂️ Something is wrong with that I think.
Now curious tho

Not necessarily. Once you've paid for a pallet of a certain size, they don't care how much it weights up to a point. You're really paying for square footage on the trailer since they can't be stacked. Cram as much as you can onto a pallet as small as you can.
