How do you stop the Bleeding and MAW syndrome

I am at a point in my restoration that every time I look or do something its MAW (Mite As Well) because I hope to not be here again or it will be covered up and should do it right the first time.

Or need this part or tool to complete the area or parts to move on to the next segment of the project. Seems I getting deliveries on a weekly basest and know all the drivers and postal employees. and everyone wants to know "What you building in that garage?" Thank God I have a good job to support this habit or is it a curse? On line shopping is truly hazardous to the pocket book.

I can see the end in site, I have completed the chassis, drive train, most all major sheet metal work and into body work. A lot of my smalls are completed, AC, heater box, lights, wiring and the core support. All my chrome and trim will be going out in the next month. So the anxiety to finish is sapping the bank account. The wife so far has been on board but that look you get when you tell her "Oh I made another order today" Is PRICELESS!

Soooooooo IS THIS CURABLE?

No, not a chance. When you go as far as you have it's in your blood. The only way to stop is cold turkey. I got out for a few years now I'm back into it worse than ever. The worst is when you buy something and when it comes you say to yourself what the hell did I need this for or it dawns on you that you already have what you bought, or better yet you overpay for a part you don't need because it's rare. Yep that's when I realized it was an incurable disease. Like the Alcoholic that starts drinking again, you just pick up where you left off and make up for lost time. Just ride the wave you won't find much support to curb you habit here.

Maw's are fine if you are keeping the car but are foolish if you are going to resell. If it is your dream car and its in your budget then why would you not.

This is the primary reason why the wife is behind it. This was our first car, the one we got married in and . I just wish I could have found the actual car we had. This one will have all the options so it comes out to be a better deal.
When It is finished, it will be Priceless.

My plan is to simply do everything once I start. Got to build the car barn first. Least the wife can't complain (doesn't exist.)

They appear to have the very latest in "Stealth technology" like some of our military aircraft. I would guess these are a steal at double the price.
....just my 2 cents worth

MAWs and the "why did I order this" are all justified by the "what if" question!
You can't take it with you.

i could load this up with cliche's, and feel good speeches..and sayings to motivate you..but you have what it takes...or you wouldnt be questioning the method or the madness...

you cant overcome it..you must move past it and keep your eye on the prize..

worry about the cost later..just enjoy you have the ability and drive to keep going..it gets better..just keep plowing thru

From a fellow Kansan (Born and raised in Atchison) we do have what it takes.

This forum has taught me a lot about my car when I thought I knew it fairly well. And I will be needing more as I get into the final assembly.

"Eye on the Prize" when I'm this close, how can I not.

Still working on my '68 4-4-2 (6 years now ), but getting CLOSE, CLOSE, I tell you, LOL! My MAWs, above and beyond parts and services, have resulted in about $1000 worth of new-to-me specialized Olds tools As Seen in the Chassis and Body Service Manuals. My wife can't understand why it is taking so long and costing way more than originally budgeted, hehe. There's a guy with a website called penybonttools.com. He must have bought out most if not all of the Olds dealers' tools when they shut the doors. He has thousands of Kent Moore and Lisle, etc. tools for just about any Olds, and thousands more for scores and scores of models/badges. All the tools I've bought came at a reasonable price and all are serviceable. I've cleaned a few up and stashed them in my tool box after using it/them for the (probably) only time I ever will, LOL!
